Hello how are you all.
Now a couple of things have come to me in my screenplay and i do not know how to do them.
So if anyone can help that would be great.
How do i talk in Another Language just say German ? in my screenplay.
How do i do a phone conversation where it cuts to the people talking to each other on the phone ?
Should i use Wrylies and Beats ?
Please write back.
Thankyou.

in an attempt to answer your entire question in a quick scene, here goes:
INT. BATHROOM - NIGHT
FRAULEIN sits on the toilet, dials a number on her portable. She waits while it rings, then it connects
FRAULEIN
(in German)
Adolf! You bastard, those suppositories you have given me, are not working!
INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT
JAMES listens on the phone, quite stunned and still not completely awake.
BEGIN INTERCUT: (or INTERCUT as necessary)
JAMES
Who the hell are you?
FRAULEIN
(in German)
Your patient, you bastard.
She groans as another spray of diarrhoea drains out of her.
JAMES
What the hell was that noise?
FRAULEIN
(in German)
I am going to kill you.
JAMES
(beat)
I think you have the wrong number.
FRAULEIN
(in German)
I think you have the wrong idea of who you can f ck with and who you cannot.
that's how you can use those things. however, with the use of "wrily", it's better that you show their attitude not by telling but by showing with things they do, things they say.

Are we supposed to understand them speaking German? Or is it just gibberish to the audience?
You're writing for the audience - the characters may understand each other, but what really matters is what the audience understands (or doesn't understand). If a character says "I love you" in German, how will the audience know what they said?

ah yes, good point. i wrote the above assuming that it'd be subtitled, but forgot to subtitle it.
FRAULEIN
(in German, subtitled)
I like the saurkraut on the wienerschnitzel.

That's funny. I don't know if it's supposed to be funny, maybe there's something wrong with me, but I like it a lot.

thank you. because i don't write comedies, i use this board as a creative outlet. you can tell by the overwhelming response, just how much the posters love my brand of humour.
pony girls are fun, aren't they?
