View Full Version : Done Deal Los Angeles Get Together

Done Deal

We are looking at holding a Done Deal LA Get Together on April 30th from 7 pm to 9pm. We realize the Nicholl Fellowships' deadline is two days later but we thought it might be a nice break even if you are still doing last minute writing.

We will most likely hold the event again at Red Rock in their upstairs bar. For those of you who have not attended one of these, it's simply a chance for visitors to our site & message board to meet in person, discuss their writing and adventures in the business.

If you want to chime in on the date, please do so as soon as possible so we can decide if this is the best time to have it. Thanks.

where is Red Rock?

Not good for me.

:(

How 'bout the weekend before or the weekend after?

I'm gonna be really bummed if I can't make this when I'm finally in the area.

Red Rock is on Sunset Blvd. between say Doheny and La Cienega. It's diagonally across from Tower Records.

The following weekend is Mother's Day weekend and didn't want to conflict with that in anyway, just in case. And the 30th is a little over a month away which gives people more time to plan hopefully.

But let's see what others have to say.

Is Red Rock within walking distance from where mdbftp is?

I'd hate for him not to make it.

I'm curious what raven could possibly be doing to preclude her from going.

Does the 30th seem to work okay? Enough people interested in attending?

Kel

The following weekend is better for me, personally. (What's the conflict with doing it Mother's Day weekend? Are we worried people are going to be hanging with their moms on that Saturday night?)

Why doesn't everyone just bring their Moms along?

Problem solved.

I'm good either weekend Will. 30th is just fine. There's 7500 DD members now. Just pick a day. You're bound to get 100 of us who can make it.

My mom said my script was very good!

Two tickets, Will.

"Consider outer space. From the time of the first NASA mission it became evident that being in outer space has a profound effect on the human psyche. During the first Gemini mission, some followers were actually given to the notion of sending a man and a woman together. Cosmic Adam and Eve if you will, bound together in a highly sophisticated nerve center at the head of the most powerful rocket yet known. Its giant thrusters blasting into the dark void as they hurtle toward their final destination: the gushing wellspring of life itself. (Beat) How would you like to have a sexual encounter so intense it could conceivably change your political views?"

30th isn't good, and my mom lives nowhere near here, so I'm putting my vote in for the following weekend. Besides, on a message board full of writers isn't giving people more time to work on their scripts to enter Nicholl WAY more important than spending time with their mothers?

I'd love to attend. April 30th looks good, but I'm not sure about the weekend after yet. I'm going out of town either the first or second weekend in May, I'm not sure which.

Okay. Well why don't we just wait so no one feels like they are missing out or aren't having enough time to write?

Why don't we try for May 14th then? Can enough people do that?

So is it the 14th? What's the scoop, Will?

Best wishes-

B,

I don't know yet. There doesn't seem to be a huge response one way or the other so not sure if folks are that interested or not in having one.

Doesn't matter to me one way or the other but I'd like to make sure enough people are interested in coming before setting anything up.

I don't like Red Rock. I like Jerry's Deli only because the flow of the event (ordering food, talking while waiting for food, ignoring Bill Martell's stories by pretending to eat fries) can't happen at Red Rock.

And I feel guilty eating all those appetizers on Will's dime. Well, not that guilty.

April 30th is good. To avoid it just for Nicholls seems odd.

Even though I'm just seeing this today (Tuesday, April 19), Will made the announcement over a month in advance. That gave all those entering Nicholls approximately 1,000 hours to get their scripts done. Do you really need that last 48?

I know this is a weird concept, but you know, I hear you can actually mail a script BEFORE the deadline. It's not just rumor. Apparently they like when you send scripts in before the last day. That being said, I have spent many crazed nights racing to the LAX post office to get postmarked before midnight -- by the way, they now close at 11:00 PM.

Mother's Day weekend sucks because it's the busiest time of the year for bars and restaurants regardless of whether you personally want to be seen in public with your mom. Let's face it, if it wasn’t for the traumatic, comedic, dramatic, neurosis filled childhoods that our mothers put us through, most of us wouldn't be writers. The least you can do is drop a few bucks on her at the Sizzler.

Oh and May 14th is fine with me too.

Yep, it was very nice seeing everyone. Wish I could have chatted with the people on the couch a little more (but, uh, the gin and tonics were in the other part of the room).
