A quick question to everyone still insisting that this trend is a good thing.
When was the last time you can remember a big spec treatment sale for a writer?

1948, I believe it was.

Looks pretty, but a 2 minute trailer that failed to convey story or concept clearly leaves a bit to be desired.

i could see the concept in this, i didnt like the animation too much, but i'm sure that was just enough to get him some meetings. seems ok, but if it was made id wait for dvd unless they took it to the next level and it had a mind blowing trailer with a cool hook. i didnt get that from this.

And I don't know that I would call the visuals 300-esque so much as ripped directly from 300. The overhead shot of all the dead soldiers with the leader sprawled out in the middle? The kid slowly rising to his feet in that particular pose? Those were exact shots from 300.

yea, no where near as hot or interesting as 300 in terms of style...not even on the same ballpark or planet.

Well...as a fan of martial arts type stuff, this looks vaguely interesting. Key word here is 'vaguely.'
It's definitely a "see what fx I can do!" type trailer, as opposed to storyline. It's deliberately crafted that way. Does it look amazing? Well... hard to tell. Too many quick edits. Great for trailers, but in the actual film, it'll look dumb.
anyway, it's a nice piece of work so far. Congrats to Gary (i think that's the guy's name)

That's true for all of recent "youtube success story" examples.

I believe the ill-fated DAYBREAKERS was purchased as a treatment, then written under the watchfull eyes of a couple of Lionsgate producers.
Edit: Sorry I did not see/read writer.

Here's the director talking about the project.
It's very obvious to me why this idea sold: It's a Manga version of '300' with martial arts.

I can see people going to theaters for this. There's a chance it myself, as I'm getting a bit sick of the flashy stuff, but if the reviews were good... I'd be there.

I still haven't tracked down a copy of Goemon with English subtitles, but yeah, it looks like a Samurai Warriors (Koei game) take of Casshern. Yes, that means it looks F*CKING CLASS!
Anyway, good luck to the director of this one, even though I'm not a fan of blue/green-screen sets.

Don't know about his own personal concept but someone should hire him to adapt "Ninja Scroll". Looks like he shot a bunch of visuals with no story:confused:
All I can say is the trailers for "The Last Airbender" looked promising. Love the visuals, hope they can create a great story and find great actors.
