Just noticed this on Done Deal sales:

Title:GoliathLogline:When the fierce warrior Goliath is sent to track down a foretold king of the Israelites, a young shepherd David is thrust into an epic chase and adventure fighting for his own life, the lives of his loved ones and eventually the lives of his people.Writer:John D. Payne Patrick McKay Prod. Co:Relativity Media (http://donedealpro.com/members/details.aspx?object_id=1431&content_type=9) Temple Hill Productions (http://donedealpro.com/members/details.aspx?object_id=2024&content_type=9) Genre:Period Action Logged:1/7/2011 More:Relativity's Ryan Kavanaugh and Temple Hill's Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen will produce. Tucker Tooley will executive produce. Scott Derrickson will direct.

Can't find anything on IMBD pro for these two writers, which leads me to think they might be newbies and this might be their first spec sale.

Can anyone confirm/deny?

Also, I'm interested in who their reps are...

Is this a case of trying to justify a period spec of your own?

Probably another square peg/round hole scenario.

The script is an original by John D. Payne and Patrick McKay, but it's being given the 300 treatment visually, with "Bourne Identity" style action.

In other words, a CGI tentpole epic, first and foremost... a period spec (undergoing many changes to reflect the aforementioned vision) second.

If you have a period piece that can be turned into an epic-scaled tentpole action flick, that's a different story.

Why, yes -- as a matter of fact I DO have an epic-scale tentpole action flick. :)

It's called "Herod" and it was a Nicholl and Praxis semi-fi and #1 on Zoe.

I've already sent queries to the prodcos involved with "Goliath," but I'd still like to know who the reps are...

Brian Miller and Sean Perrone of Kaplan/Perrone. The guys are also repped at UTA, not sure by whom.

Had a meeting with Gale Hanson of Relativity back in November and he mentioned the project - I think they bought the spec in late July.

Good luck with HEROD!

Wow! Great link!

"I've never heard of the writers before, so I assume they're tyro scribes and that this is their first big sale. I did some poking around and learned that they were quarter-finalists in the 2005 Scriptapalooza Competition with their script, Our Man Lilburne, and that McKay was a semi-finalist in the 2006 American Zoetrope Screenplay Contest with The Halloween Party."

I'd like to hear the story of their path from these contests to these reps and this sale....

Brian Miller and Sean Perrone of Kaplan/Perrone.

Can't find an email for Miller and he doesn't seem to follow the convention for others at K/P (it bounced). Can anyone help out?

Thanks!

Personally, I'm looking forward to the part with the forty foreskins.

Oops... try "Bryan."

Per LinkedIn, looks like he's not there any more... which is probably why the email bounced...

Just email Sean Perrone then. He has a hotmail addy listed on IMDBPro even, might still be viable.

According to that Linkd In profile Bryan is no longer in management and left to become a venture capitalist. It happens.

Interesting -- "Goliath" has been taken off the Done Deal sales list for January. Wassup with that? (I was wondering why it was there in the first place, if the sale was in July...)

remember when tony curtis wore a spartacus skirt?

And for you trivia buffs, when Spartacus was re-released with previously deleted scenes, who dubbed the missing dialogue that had been originally spoken by the late Laurence Olivier?

That would be the infamous Dr. Hannibal Lecter.

Yes. We normally don't like to back date listings but if there is enough evidence floating around out there to suggest the most current announcement was a "director attached" press release vs. when the project was set up/sold/optioned then for historical accuracy we'd rather date it as close as possible to when the script or literary deal actually happened.

Pretty sure they are new writers. UTA and Kaplan/Perrone repped the script.
