Episodes is currently 2 eps in on the BBC. A 30min comedy about two British writers (Tamsin Greig and Stephen Mangan from The Green Wing) who get the opportunity to live in L.A. and write the US version of their hit UK show.

Needless to say, things do not go smoothly. Starting with the casting, Richard Griffiths (Harry Potter's foster dad) is replaced in the starring role by Matt LeBlanc (playing a A-hole version of himself). Even LeBlanc says he's "not right for the part", as he sets about making changes to his character, which the fawning producers readily agree to...

I didn't laugh much in episode one. Although the concept interesting (though hardly original) Epsiode two was funnier, and it will be interesting to see where this goes as they haven't got into the writing part of it yet.

I assume BBC America will show this at some point?

it's a showtime production. it won't be on bbc america.
they must be broadcasting it simultaneously across the pond or maybe it's a joint venture.

and i don't think they'll really get into the "writing" part of the show. so far it's more about the "industry" process... and how hollywierd sometimes chooses the wrong actor for the wrong reason. i'm waiting for the decision to turn the prestigious boys school into a catholic girls schools so matt leblanc can be around a bunch of kilt-wearing teenyboppers.

I watched the first two yesterday and wasn't impressed. Maybe it hasn't found its feet yet but it doesn't seem to know what it is (and neither do I) Comedy? Drama? Dramady?

Actually if comedy was what they were going for they might well have done better trying for mockumentary in the office or even modern family vein???

Dont see the legs on this one.

You have a real big problem when your two leads in your comedy arent funny. These two really arent. You could skate if it was one fish out of water straight brit man type reacting to the crazy hollywood world he/she is surrounded by in every scene, but since there are two of them, there are quite a number of scenes with just the couple.

This tends to be a problem when neither is funny.

Alot of the jokes are based on Matt LeBlanc *wink-wink* jokes. aka wow, the soft cuddly guy we all know as joey is the exact opposite. Funny a handful of times, but for a series? not sure that can hold, tho his character is actually the deepest on the show and has provided some laughs.

Think the Merk character is way over the top, but the rest of the network people are kinda spot on.

if the leads can find a way to create some laughs, it might have potential.

right now its choking under the weight of have two leads who are way too similar.

The two leads have been funnier in much funnier sit-coms.

Digging this show now. Had a wonky start, but the smoke blowing scenes were great and a reminder on how much of it must go on around a town.

I have to agree with Mark. I've watched a few early ep's and usually get repulsed by the 2 leads. They are hard to watch, for one, and then the woman is constantly harping on one thing or another. And not in a remotely funny way.

*Really* didn't care for the pilot -- it felt stranded somewhere in between British and American humour without being either -- but it found its feet by episode three. Very glad I stuck with it.

Just saw the pilot, and I'm really diggin' it. Not hilarious, but quite fun. A good dramedy.

EDIT/ Just saw the S. Final, and darn it, it was good. I'm in for season 2.
