Just signed up for a free month trial of Netflix and, it's been a while, so I've been rewatching some of my favorite episodes of BSG.
And, Jesus, what a fraking brilliant show. I always loved it when it was on but after rewatching the miniseries pilot, the first episode "33," the three Pegasus episodes, the two-part "Exodus" where they escape New Caprica, etc., it really drives home to me what a gem this show was and still is. The characters, the tension, the gutsy move of casting Starbuck as a female and the incredible portrayal by Katie Sackhoff, the boldness of the war on terror allegories...I miss this show so much.
Yeah, it had some unresolved plot holes and the ending disappointed some people (not me) but, overall, I consider it a near masterpiece.
Anyway, if you've never seen it or haven't seen it in a while, go watch it now.

They are also showing reruns on BBC America. Truly one of the best shows.

I have the first two seasons on DVD. The last two? I could live without.

+1
I would have preferred an unresolved cliffhanger ending over what they came up with. That ending was more traumatic than the twist in the Crying Game.
unresolved plot holes
Understatement.
The whole show was unraveling fast and digging itself into a deeper and deeper plot hole <--- lolz
Still. The first few seasons were well worth the price of admission. Good stuff. A benchmark for what Science Fiction can be if done right.
I was hoping sy-fy would get a clue from the success of BSG but sadly they returned to such gems as Super Gator vs. Mega Squid.

Never seen it myself but there's a great episode of Portlandia where the characters are so addicted to it the watch every episode in one sitting.
I'm curious though, is the ending so bad that it negates the good? I wanna watch it but if it hurts my enthusiasm knowing it ends so badly.

A lot of people hate the ending. A lot of people love it. You'll probably have to decide yourself. I'd advice you not to read too much about the show because it can really ruin the experience.
Galactica was very ambitious thematically, had great characters and many good storylines. But the life of a series is long and complicated...
I had a similar experience with the ending of Galactica as I did with the ending of Lost: it, somehow, ruined most of the previous experience of watching the show, and I don't think I'd revisit either series. But I'm still glad I've watched them, I had a lot of fun along the way.
Both series started to lose appeal to me from very definite points, in both cases they were season finales and, in both cases too, they would have been fairly decent series finales.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is that, even with its flaws, there's still a lot to enjoy. Watch it.

Quoted for truth.
Give it a try.
The series ran for five years. A lot happens between the beginning and the end.
There are also two spin-off movies, Razor and The Plan which are both really good but you don't want to watch those until after you've finished the series. If you didn't like the ending they will help redeem the series and take away that bad taste left in your mouth.
A lot of non-sci-fi fans I know enjoyed it. Think war drama and later a political drama set in a futuristic world. It's not Star Trek.

I'm only just starting Season 3, but I can already say that it's one of my favorite shows ever.
The first season, however, I didn't feel was nearly as strong as the second. It's actually pretty weak in comparison to other shows like Lost, for example. But then there was that one moment at the end of that first season that took me completely by surprise, grabbed me by the balls and said "you're going to like this show, god dammit!". And from that point on, I knew it was going to be amazing. It's almost as if the creators made the first season weaker on purpose just to throw in that unbelievably awesome ending to it that just totally rocked my world.

What was the moment for you? Mine was when Adama launched his Raptors against the Pegasus.*
*Whited out to avoid spoilers for people who haven't watched it yet.

Ah, yes! Don't know why that one slipped my mind. That one was fantastic, too.

Season 3 ends with a huge reveal but it was also the point where the series started to lose me as a fan.
Season 4 has some great episodes as well but for me the big story was falling apart.
I'm waiting for Biohazard to explode once he's finished the series.
