So far....

Carrie was ???? Who knows with that awful song.

BO IS AWESOME!!! There's nothing else to say about the guy. Except that his mom is a MILF and his dad is Kenny Rogers.

Vonzell was ATROCIOUS tonight.

We're at the half way point....

The three idiots are left.

Mere words can't describe how atrocious Constantine's voice is. In him you are bearing witness to the biggest hoax since Piltdown Man.

Vonzell was solid. Stop by 711 and pick up a new brain, billy. Get a refrigerated one this time

Carrie continues to be 'sybil on stage'

Bo did his thing again and is safe

Constantine is growing on me. Maybe like a fungus. We'll see

Anthony finally twigged in my mind who he has always sounded like. Think REO Speedwagon

Scott was not strong. He has a voice and it'll be a sin if he has to go back to a joe average life, but that performance/song choice may very well have ended his journey.

I'd send Carrie back to Checotah on the evening stage though if it were up to me

I'm back. Sorry, Pen, I didn't get your message in time. I'll have to keep on keepin on with what I have.

If Vonzell missed anymore notes she'd be....uh...she'd be a metaphor for something that misses a lot of notes.

I like the Russkie and his family, but there's just nothing there.

I got a new TV thanks to you know who.

And I quote Stewie from the Family Guy Promo during the commercial when I say...."Go Away Fat Man." or should I call him the "Heart and Soul of America?"
:lol

No one was very good tonight. Vonzelle was pretty good (though she did start a bit bumpy), Bo was distinctly unspectacular, though okay. Anthony made the most of his limited talent.

Carrie was remarkably ho hum. Scott was very uneven, though his worst notes are better than Constantine's best.

Constantine is growing on me. Maybe like a fungus. Are you running a fever, Pen? Constantine may have the whole Jim Morrison Lizard King thing going on, but my God, his vocals were the absolute worst since William Hung hit the stage.

Bo was the best tonight.

Constantine is a good showman, even though he can't sing. Did you notice - no mascara? heh. bet he took a lot of flak for that.

Federov wasn't as bad as scott.

I missed vonzell's performance.

Carrie can't hold a tune.

Scott will go.

P.S. I'd say it's a no brainer that Scott is gone this week.

If Constantine doesn't show up on the bottom three tonight, I'd wager that he'll be in the final three, and very possibly the final two (with a Bo/Constantine face-off).

His performance was decidedly weak.

And I say that as a complete groupie.

I believe it to be a calculated risk, however. With his Pray for the Soul of Betty CD release next month, he's trying to wean the pop idol crowd set on how he can rock.

Risky, risky strategy, given how fickle the AI voting crowd can be.

Of the six, I think Scott should go home - but I fear for Vonzell.

I'd say that the bottom three should be Scott, Vonzell and Constantine but given the fact Connie's line was busy right up to the last minute (yes, I voted for two hours - don't judge me dammit), I'd say Anthony will still end up in the bottom three.

Vonzell selects challenging songs every week. She never plays it safe and always pulls it off. She's actually my favorite this season.

But I think it's Carrie who's going to win. You people under-estimated the red states during the Presidential elections, and you're under-estimating them again here. Carrie speaks to those people. God bless America!

Rose

Top three in order.

Vonzell

Bo

Carrie

Based on performance and pipes. If you can't tear up the stage, you won't be the pop idol rage.

Carrie will have a solid country career no matter what. Blondie can sing and sit on a straw bale.

Bo is a big question mark. He should hook up with Carrie and do the country rock stuff.

billythrilly7
04-27-2005, 09:36 AM
I missed vonzell's performance

Let me fill you in.

She missed every other note for the first half of the song.

Evened it out and hit some big notes towards the end.

Smiled a lot.

And it was over.

If some company wanted to build and market a robotic R&B singer they would design it after Vonzell.

Good looks, good voice, big smile...but nothing on the inside. Just nothing.

http://liteblue.usps.gov/news/link/2005photos/05_0113idol.jpg

The Vonzell Doll....Coming to a toy store near you.

But hey, art is all subjective, so if you want to go spend your hard earned $100 to see Vonzell at the Stardust in Vegas, be my guest.

Or you can see Carrie knock'em dead at the MGM Grand with my friends from the red states. Good folk.

Or that clown Constantine can be seen at Circus Circus.(or the Mirage)

Bo and I will be at the HardRock kicking some ass!!!

(I'm not sure where you'll be able to see Federov and Scott in the future, but I'm pretty sure the words "Lounge," "Bamboo," and "Tikki" will be part of it.")

:lol Billy.

You're wrong about Vonzelle, Billy. Her uneven beginning last night notwithstanding (and it wasn't anywhere near as disastrous as you make it out to be), she sang way better than anyone else. And she is clearly the best among a not terribly talented group this season. (NOTE: Latoya from last season would fvcking mop the floor with any of these contestants).

Carrie's got an exceptional voice too (though it didn't show last night), but if she could drag her proverbial a$$ off that bail of hay, she might be considered a "performer".

Bo seems like a terrific guy, but frankly he's WAY overrated.

Constantine... y'all know what I think of him.

Scott and Anthony - pretenders.

As Billy would say: Nuff said.

billythrilly7
04-27-2005, 09:53 AM
Sal, my buddy, it ain't just about singing, it's about "it" as well. Bo has "it." Carrie has "it." The rest don't have it. Constantine thinks he has "it"
and sometimes looks like... http://www.easterncoastcostume.com/Pages/headgear/PONYEXPRESS2/PONYCOUSINIT2-2.jpg

..but he doesn't have "it."

I quote Bono. "Other bands played better and looked better but they didn't have 'it.' ALL we had was 'it.'"

It ain't "America's Best Singer." It's "American Idol." Nuff said.
:D

P.S. What kind of life am I leading that I'm not driving my kids to school right now or sculpting a great work of art in Venice? I'm writing long posts about the American Idol TV show. Hmmmf. I was in all advanced classes, the world was mine for the taking, and this is where I've ended up. Hmmf...

I thought everyone was below average last night, but Carrie especially so. She sounded bad on a Martina McBride song, for god's sake.

Hell, Martina can't sing and SHE can sing that song. Come on, Carrie.

I predict Scott, Federov, and Carrie in the bottom, with Carrie or Scott going home. (My instinct says Carrie, my common sense says Scott).

Anwar's been busted out of my top 3, so my new top 3 is Bo, Constantine and Federov, with Constantine winning it all.

And DON'T even get me started on Fonzette, who while having proven herself a talented singer, screams "I'm a friggin idiot" everytime she opens her mouth to speak. Last night's example: Calling Tae Kwon Do "Karate."

Geevie
04-27-2005, 12:11 PM
Hell, Martina can't sing and SHE can sing that song.

<clank>

Sorry... that was my jaw hitting the ground.

Martina McBride has some of the most powerful pipes in country music.

The problem with that song is it doesn't show it off.

I'm not so sure that Carrie will see the bottom three yet. She made it through last week's debacle unscathed, and her performance last week was much, much worse than this week. I still cringe thinking about it.

Bad.

Baaaaad.

I think she'll make the final three, no problems.

I think this is Scott's (long overdue) week to go home, even with all the manipulative editing they used primarily for weakest three contestants.

Long live "reality" TV.

Sorry Geevie... for whatever reason, maybe cause she lives here or something, Martina's ALWAYS a friggin opening act for Country here in LA (saw her open for Toby/Billy Ray, George, and B&D)... and man.. she's got "Independence Day..."

Life Number Nine
Independence Day
Whatever You Say
When God Fearin Women Get the Blues
This One's for the Girls
A Broken Wing
Concrete Angel
Love's the Only House

The main thing I realized from last night's show is that a lot of incredibly boring songs have come out since 2000.

I thought Bo's choice was decent, but other than that I thought they were yawners. I'd never heard Vonzell's, Carrie's, or Ferorov's songs before. I realize this is probably partly because I'm getting old, but sheez...

Actually, he sounded better tonight. I think maybe he overshot it yesterday.

Either way, he showed he's a star with the way he went out.

I wish it were a hoax, I'm still shocked beyond words. I have lost all interest in watching this show now. And I love Bo... but I'm not even sure of him anymore. If the American voting public bought that emotional BS about Scott and his daddy, they won't give a flying f*ck about how talented Bo is or how great Carrie sings. They'll vote for that underdog all the way.

I am the Authorized of AI Picking.

A Pathetic Writer
04-28-2005, 12:35 AM
By the way, I also believe the show is 100% rigged, and the votes do not matter at all, in fact are likely not even counted. It always impresses me that every single week (for 3 years now) Ryan has been saying they've been getting a record number of votes.

This was a necessary step toward convincing America that Simon's fave, Bo, is the next AI. Only one rocker allowed.

Final Final thought:

It's clear the producers saw the vast disparity between the girl cast and the guy cast, and HAD to kill one of the better men to make an evener-looking playing field for the finals.

Now, instead of 2 great guys (bo, const) and 2 average guys (scott, feddie) versus one good girl (fonzie) and one good-looking girl (carrie) you've got 1 great guy, and two average guys, against 2 girls who can probably knock off both Federov and Scott.

A powerplay by the producers to make the weakest female field in series history look a little more palatable for the final 5, and practically guarantee a female in the top 3, possibly top 2.

I had a thought earlier. A desperate thought, mind you, but a thought nonetheless.

Okay, it makes absolutely no sense to me how a guy who has NEVER hit the bottom three suddenly gets ousted. I called and voted and the lines were busy all the way to the end. I know he got a lot of votes. Not saying it's not within the realm of possibility that Scott (herk) could get more votes - but since he's consistantly been in the bottom three for weeks and his performance was just as weak as Connie's, it seems highly unlikely.

So I was thinking... ok. IF this is scripted reality, what better way to drum up ratings by eliminating a fan favorite and then saying "oops... there was a mistake" (like the revote a few weeks back). If they had to rebroadcast the show it would coincide nicely with the Primetime Live next week with the AI expose.

Then I thought, nah. Conspiracy theories are cliche. It's just bad luck. Maybe he actually threw the competition so he could go rock out and tour with his CD release, etc. (I've worked hard to find logic in these strange and disturbing events, as you can tell)

I happened onto the AI boards and saw someone had said that she had a friend at the beginning of the season tell her that someone would get ousted, there would be a voting problem and they'd be brought back.

If that happens... well...

I'm not just swimming in the waters of denial.

:b

(It's a really good thing none of y'all had any respect me before, because my credibility is officially shot now.)

In the 1979 Stanley Cup playoffs my team, Boston, was eliminated in sudden death overtime by Montreal. I was devastated. My world was in ruins. I cried and cried, we were so close.

Then I got the notion they would review the goal, discover someone was in the crease, and they'd bring the teams back out and re-drop the puck.

I never gave up hope

And any day now I expect that's what they'll do

Interesting theories, Geevie, but let me educate you on...

(from Wikipedia)
Occam's Razor:
In its simplest form, Occam's Razor states that one should make no more assumptions than needed. When multiple explanations are available for a phenomenon, the simplest version is preferred. A charred tree on the ground could be caused by a landing alien ship or a lightning strike. According to Occam's Razor, the lightning strike is the preferred explanation as it requires the fewest assumptions.

The simplest version as to why Constantine is gone is the one I would go with.

HE SUCKED

So he went from never being in the bottom three, having legions of fans, rabid female fanbases, getting the most applause and shout outs etc from the audience to...

Erm. Okay.

:\

The problem is not that his performance wasn't weak. I even said I anticipated he'd finally make the bottom three. The problem is Scott Savol, who has consistantly been in the bottom three, suddenly got more votes than Constantine when his performance was just as poor.

I know those lines for Connie were busy - I know many, many people who voted all the way through and the lines were busy. There's just no way that he got the lowest amount of votes.

That's not how it works in Gingerland.

In Billysville maybe, but not Gingerland.

Just because the phones were busy in one part of the country doesn't mean they were busy in another part.

He had the lowest amount of votes. End of story. Live with it. Maybe Scott picked up a big chunk of the Anwar constituency. Who knows?

Constantine went home becuase he's a suck up scheemer.
The video of him and his family, at the end, he had the suck up nerve to say, I hope I win the competition, it would make my family so happy.

America will put up with off notes, mascara and bad hair, but don't you dare be a brash suck up!

Go Bush!

Here's a tip for the Democratic party. Next presidential election you folks get Scott involved in campaigning for you in Ohio. If Scott is the new version of Everyman... Ugh, that's sad. Did he have a job before Idol?

ok, I must admit, Bo rocked. I thought he was just awesome.

And it's not like I expected Con to win - I never thought either Bo or Con would win. I didn't trust the American voting public that much. See November 2004.

But I certainly thought he could outlast the likes of Scott. I mean pah-lease.

People say they find Connie arrogant or creepy or a poser. Well, Connie never insulted the voting public with, "you're there and I'm here" like like He Who Shall Go Unnamed. And Connie never got arrested for beating his girlfriend... like He Who Shall Go Unnamed. Connie doesn't act like ghetto white trash, like like He Who Shall Go Unnamed.

But whatever. I'm bitter, but I'll get over it. Eventually.

One bright light - Connie's going to be on Ryan's radio show at 9:00CST.

The women's voices are far from flawless, no doubt. But the guys' voices are worse. A fluid and powerful voice that occasionally gets pitchy (the kind of voices that the women have and to a lesser extent Scott) can be developed rather easily into spectacular voices that do not get pitchy. A consistent and non-pitchy, very good, yet unspectacular voice (the kind of voices that Bo and Anthony have) will not get any better. You're seeing all there is to see. And to me, that's not enough.

Frankly, they all blow compared to Latoya from last season.

Cue Billy with his "it's not called 'America's Best Singer', it's called 'American Idol'". :lol

Which begs the question: what's your definition of an IDOL, then? It's a pretty nebulous characterization of what we might consider simply a pop icon. If so, perhaps we should as well judge on the basis of their fashion sense, their comedic wit during interviews, their sex appeal, etc. If that's the intent, it's not for me to argue. But why do they constantly refer to recording contracts, album sales and such as their reward/prize for this exposure on AI? They're not being promised a comedy show or a continuing role as Elsa Klensch's sidekick on Style. It's the singing, baby! Make no mistake.

Yes on the first line!

And the second...

THE WHOLE THING IS RIDICULOUS!! From the first second this show went on the airwaves and I heard the title I've been screaming "None of these people will ever be American IDOLS! They all suck!" And they do. No clear thinking American would spend a dime to see Clarkson, Stoddard, Aiken, Fantasia(although she had a little star quality), or any of them. Little kids aren't clear thinking, they're little kids, so it's fine.

Elvis was an American Idol. Sinatra. Michael Jackson. Madonna.

Every contestant that has ever been on any of these shows SUCKS in the grand scheme of things.

It's an embarrassment to all Thrilly's that I even watch the show. Thank god for Simon. Without him, there's nothing.

As I said before, AI is fixed. Even the guy on the morning show The Buzz says so.

I agree with (forgive me) Pathetic when he mentioned Constantine's band signing a contract having something to do with it. Although Constantine did not sign the contract, the recording was previously made and it includes Constantine's vocals.

I think the AI contract has become more exclusive over the years and that is why Mario (whom I think would have won) backed out and that is where Constantine's lawyers found a loophole that allowed his record to be made, despite their contract.

It's fixed, people.

Pray for the Soul of Betty - currently #3 on the Amazon top seller list, up from like 200 and something a week ago.

AI served its purpose even if he didn't win.

As for the whole contract thing, I think that has little to do with it. AI seems a lot more laid back in what they expect from their idols this year.

Paula went on record saying that because Simon told Scott he should "pack his bags", it sent those who would vote for him to the phones in droves.

Also there's that whole "Vote for the Worst" website which encourages people to vote for the worst contestant. Scott is their poster boy.

For whatever the reason, his success is inexplicable to me. He can sing aiiight (personally I think Anthony is the better singer of the two), but he just isn't a performer. And he's a bit of an ass if you go back to the Hollywood auditions when he wouldn't participate in the group thing they had to do.

So even though, of the remaining five, Bo is the one who SHOULD win (performance/presence/talent), I wouldn't count on it.

Too many variables.

When we ask who the Morning Buzz guy is, we didn't just want a name -- we wanted a reason as to why you're so wet for this guy that his far-removed opinion on a TV show he has no involvement with means so much to you? So much that you would actually take the time and effort to cite him as if he was an expert and we're supposed to be swayed by it?

Why?

And don't say it's because of a "feeling." Not too long ago, you had a "feeling" that Clay Aiken went on record to say Idol was fixed. I provided a link, evidence that proved your "feeling" wrong. So your metaphysical pit-of-the-soul hoo-hah has a poor track record. Try and use that noodle of yours to answer: Why?

ob -

I remember reading something about Clay Aiken and AI "being fixed." It was well over a year ago - I do not remember the exact statement! I alreay accused you of spoiling my fun, as I SAID BEFORE, but you CHOOSE to ignore this! What is your problem?

So, I tried to see if something was on the 'net, and found this:

"Clay Aiken Fans Claim 'American Idol's' Results Fixed

07/12/2003 10:00 AM, LAUNCH
LAUNCH Radio Networks

(7/12/03, 10 a.m. ET) -- It seems that not everyone was happy with the outcome of this season's American Idol. A large group of AI fans have banded together online and have started an email campaign to Fox and the Federal Communications Commission (or FCC), alleging that the talent contest was fixed in favor of winner Ruben Studdard.

A group of emailed complaints collected by TheSmokingGun.com--who requested them from the FCC under the Freedom Of Information Act--profile various complaints, including the accusation that Fox provided fewer lines for runner-up Clay Aiken's voters, that judge Simon Cowell deliberately refrained from picking on Studdard's weight, and that the Fox producers lied about the number of votes received.

The FCC is said to be looking into the matter."

from music.yahoo.com/read/news/12061726 (http://music.yahoo.com/read/news/12061726)

That MIGHT be what I remembered, or not, I don't recall the details BECAUSE IT IS UNIMPORTANT. Reread that part again a few times, okay? You're the type of person who needs several rereads.

Camera Obscura

If it was so unimportant, why did you bring it up in the first place by citing it as if it was truth? You're a fountain of misinformation -- spouting nonsense as facts, promoting emotions as deductive reasoning. So if all this is so unimportant to you, that must means you don't say these things to make a point -- you're subversively admitting you just simply like to hear yourself talk.

The piece you cut-and-paste is a far cry from "Clay Aiken said the show was fixed."

If you think I am posting facts, that is your own thinking. It has nothing to do with anything I said! I did say, did I not, that you were spoiling my fun? What do you think that really means? I was being totally serious? Um. Wanna guess again?

Walk away, ob, walk away...

I think what you posted previously is something you strongly believed in, but now that you've been proven wrong, you are trying to spin it in a different context. What are you, Republican?

Is that the move?

Try and cry your way to the next round?

I ain't falling for it.

No matter what the reason is.

This is American Idol. The most important talent contest in the history of planet earth. I will not compromise my judging integrity because of a few tears.

Not this guy. No way.

Tonight's show stinks....

WHY IN GOD'S NAME, THREE WEEKS AWAY FROM THE ANNOINTING OF A NEW AMERICAN IDOL, ARE THE PRODUCERS MAKING THEM SING SONG'S FROM THESE HORRIBLE CATEGORIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AHHHHHH!!!!!!

IT SHOULD BE EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF AT THIS STAGE OF THE COMPETITION.

AHHHHHHHH!!!!

why did Carrie and Anthony sing the same song?

That stinks

billythrilly7

Because they keep choosing these obscure song writing teams that have like one or two good songs that people know.

Entire show tonight...atrocious

Listen, this has driven me crazy about the AI posts for months, so I am going to vent a little...

It ain't fixed! The producers want to sell records, so they want the winner to be the one who is the most popular, so they don't fix the voting but in fact are desperate to know who is the most popular. How do they do that? By accurately reflecting the voting.

Anyone who thinks it's fixed is crazy. Anyone who thinks they "got rid of" Constantine is crazy.

Sorry for the stridence.

It's fixed. Quite obviously, too.

It's fixed. So says dclary, so that is that.

Only, I am openminded, and say it COULD be fixed. But maybe it's not.

There are a thousand reasons I can think of for why the show isn't fixed, but what scares me is the one reason why it is.

P.S. It's not fixed.

Please don't go conspiratorial on me. Please. I count on you.

In the history of planet earth there have been maybe, MAYBE, 3 or 4 conspiracies.

I assure all that the stupid American Idol TV show is not one of them.

There is no "reality" in reality tv.

We all know that.

It's not a f*cking conspiracy... it's damn fine editing and manipulation.

As is ALL media.
