As the resident TV guru, perhaps it would not be to much to ask for you to entertain my triviality.
(to avoid redundancy, see Loglines & Script pages; A sitcom attempt: Act I)
If you were getting ready to write a sitcom spec for sample, which two or three shows would you consider? (Forgive me if this is not you genre.)
I ask this because I personally don't have a show I watch, but I can certainly get up to speed on whichever you propose. Thanks and may I say I have always enjoyed your perspective on the board.

I'm going to have to cop out on you here. I have no specific ideas about sit-coms. Throw this one over to Bonita, that's her area of forte.
Sorry.

Thanks for your timely response.
A brief follow-up question: Which do you feel is more favorable to have as a writing sample in the current market, a one hour drama-action teleplay or a half-hour three camera sitcom?

The "hot" half hour specs du jour are: Curb Your Enthusiasm, Bernie Mac, Malcolm In The Middle, Everybody Loves Raymond. Some people are still doing Will & Grace but I've heard execs are sick of the show. After you've done all of those, you might try King of Queens. Don't bother doing a Yes, Dear. No one will read it.
Hot one hours: West Wing, Sopranos, Six Feet Under, CSI. You could also do Alias, Boston Public, Practice, Law & Order. I've also heard The Shield is popular. Angel or Buffy is limited; not many other show will read them. There may be others I'm forgetting. Maybe Smallville?
If you want to show you can do both drama and comedy, do Ed or Gilmore Girls.
As far as your second question, I know it sounds basic, but if you want to write on a sitcom, do a sitcom spec. If you want to write on a drama, do a drama spec. If you want to do both, do both.
Edited to add: right now, there seem to be more oppotunities on drama shows, but the business is cyclical and that could change.

Bonita,
Thanks so much for your thoughts. You've giving me plenty to chew on.
btw, I was the guy who emailed you the other day with the D & G spec question.
