View Full Version : Universal's secret

If spec screenwriters are encouraged to register their scripts then submit away without being paranoid of someone hijacking their idea, then why is a major studio like Universal keeping an original idea (The Break Up) under wraps, by not disclosing it's plot line. What does a major company like Universal have to worry about? :rolleyes

It's not about somebody stealing their idea, it's about not showing your hand until the pot's big enough. Studios have to consider things like casting, marketing, the fact that rival studios may have similar projects and who will get theirs out first...

It's really a money thing. As far as I know.

I thought it might be a production issue, but I guess I'm just wondering why some projects need this kind of care, and others are listed and disclosed right away.
