A good tip for targeting likely production companies for whatever genre you're writing in, is a visit to your nearest Blockbuster or similar large video/dvd rental chain.

Scan the section containing titles in your genre ("American Beauty," "Duplex," etc. in your case). The product packaging always gives the name of the production company. If the movie did well for them, many will likely be interested in hearing or reading your pitch. You'll often be told to submit through representation but most will read a query. Also try the phone-pitch-to-development route as well -- you have nothing to lose.

To contact them, five minutes on Google will yield the web addresses of numerous websites that have free listings of most of these producers.

A noteworthy additional source for finding which producers *and* agent/mgrs are looking for your genre, are the Fade In directories for Producers and the one for Agents/Managers.
Both of these are atypical in having for each listing,
comments about current genres sought. Google will quickly yield the ways to obtain these and all other directories.
