A great book which outlines the yearly cycle is SMALL SCREEN, BIG PICTURE by Chad Gervich. But to really roughly sketch it out --

January - pilot scripts will be picked up to pilot.
February - pilot prep and casting.
March - pilots shoot.
April - pilots in post.
May - pilots picked up to series.
June - everyone takes vacation.
July - shows start up. prodcos hear pitches.
August - studios hear pilot pitches.
September - networks buy pitches.
October - writers create outlines.
November - first studio draft by Thanksgiving.
December - first network draft by Christmas.
January - it all starts again...

So not sure what you mean by pilot season, but this is the window where scripts get turned into pilots, which lasts till february. then in late april, early may those pilots will get picked up to series. the exact dates that we'll know everything are when the networks have their "upfronts"

that's traditionally the network pilot schedule. but Fox apparently does year-round development now. and cable is on their own timetable as well.

nice. so, HBO, AMC, FX, SHO could be picking up through March or further... good to know.
