does getting a $ offer on a script automatically get you in the Guild?
not a member yet but would like to be.

If you're in the East yes(but no medical benefits/Pension/etc until you reach a certain $$ level).

If you're on the West Coast...no, not until you reach a certain money level.

I could be wrong, but doesn't the money offer have to come from a signatory - not just any old company - in order for the writer to be eligible? Are there ways to get in with deals from non-signatories?

No you're right. Sorry thought that was implied. Deals for non-signatories will not get you in the guild

You can also get in the WGA West at the Associate Level through the Guild Independent Writers Caucus -- no health or pension benefits, but other benefits do apply, along with limited voting rights. You don't need to make a big sale or be staffed on a TV show.

And of course, you still need to obey all the Guild rules regarding only contracting with signatories, etc.

Late Night Writer
