Open source software for screenwriters
Hi everybody!

I am the developer of Open Source software for screenwriters KIT Scenarist ( For a long time (more than 2 years), application was aimed mainly at users of Russia and the CIS, but in latter days increasingly get requests for its adaptation for world standards.

I want to share my project with you. Maybe someone will find it interesting or even useful.

Today application contains 3 main module:
  • Research - for collecting all materials about project;
  • Script - screenplay editor;
  • Statistics - production reports and plots.
In the near future I plan to implement many things that are very important in the world, but not in great demand in Russia, such as corkboard, automatic text correntions on the page breaks (CONT'D), fixing pages and scenes numbers and many other things.

If the project is interesting for you and you decide to try it, I'll be glad to hear your opinion about it. Maybe you will have suggestions for improvement, or just want to express your opinion, then happy to hear you.

Thank you!

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Hey! I implemented corkboard in KIT Scenarist. It's available in beta-version 0.7.0. If you want to try it - just download app from website and do that :)

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Hi, guys! I published a new beta version KIT Scenarist 0.7.0 beta 3. It includes Trelby import, updated Final Draft templates and other improvements.

dimkanovikov 11-20-2016 04:47 AM

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Hi everybody!

Fresh beta version of app is ready! There is KIT Scenarist 0.7.0 beta 4. It includes fixes of bugs funded in past two weeks:
• greatly improved folders and scenes groups feature;
• context menu for cards and for navigator now has an action for transformation scenes to folder or scenes group and vice versa;
• fixed bug with saving order of recent projects;
• fixed bug with renaming characters and locations in some cases.

Currently this is most stable beta in 0.7.0 branch. And if we'll don't find new critical bugs in next week, I will move it to stable release.

With new release I want to share my development plans. There will be many interesting things. I'm really want to share it right now, but better we'll wait next stabilization :)

I wish you all a good day and sunny mood!

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Hello my friends!

We have some delay with moving to stable release. That is because was found some errors which make crash the Windows version of application.

And we release new KIT Scenarist version 0.7.0 beta 5.

Windows unlike Mac OS X or Linux don't provide way to access to details information about application state on crash moment and I integrated crash handler module to application itself. Now when application starts after crash you will can send error report. Please don't ignore this reports, if we'll can collect many reports we'll have great possibility to fix all errors that makes crashes. In additional to report please write what actions was lead to crash, there is special fields in report dialog for this.

I hope now we can collect enough information about errors and make application more and more stable.

Have a good day!

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Hello everybody!

Thank you very much for the reports and feedback on errors! After processing all of the data I was able to fix a number of bugs that led to the crash of the program, namely:

• fixed an issue when saving a new character/location;
• fixed a problem with the backup creating;
• fixed an issue with update projects from version 0.5.9.

Thanks again guys! Thanks to you program each time gets better!

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Hello friends!

So we went together another year. It was an interesting year, complex and rich in different events. And I want to finish it with a good news - today comes stable version 0.7.0 KIT Scenarist! After the release of the previous beta we didn't noticed any critical bugs, so we move it in a stable status. You can read about all innovations of version 0.7.0 in links: beta 1, beta 2, beta 3, beta 4, beta 5 and beta 6.

I hope you all liked the way we passed the previous year. We have grown strongly and now want to set even more ambitious and exciting goals for the next year. I have a very long wanted to share them, and now I'm ready to do it!

What awaits us in 2017!?

Next year, I will continue to develop our program, it also will remain free and open to everyone, but other than that, I want to develop more services that will be paid. These will include cloud services and mobile applications. So, let's look at the detail plan in 2017:

0.7.0 Cloud - in January, I am planning to start closed beta testing of cloud service. It will include collaborate writing of script and store your scripts in cloud, but you always can work with it in offline mode.

0.7.1 Research - then there will be a renewed version of the research module. I plan to move the characters and locations in the research, improve the work with them, their storage, implement the ability of data filtering, adding new kinds of materials and many other improvements.

0.7.1 Cloud and mobile versions - then, as planned cloud version of software for public testing is to be published. Also I plan to release mobile versions for iOS and Android devices. Mobile apps at this stage will include only a text editor and will only work with local files.

0.7.2 Cards - then I want to release a version, which will be rethought card module. Now work with the cards get a few tricky and I already have some ideas on this unit, but so far they have a little lie down for better implementation.

0.7.3. Cloud - then the cloud service will include synchronization of cards, and we will move it to the battle mode.

0.7.4 Script Editor - the next version will include a number of global improvements of the module with the text script. It will improved templates system, allowing you to create more flexible templates, such as plays or comic books, it will be implemented features such as automatic corrections of the text on the page breaks, blocking the scene number, bookmarks and much more.

0.7.4 Mobile and cloud with cards - and then released a mobile application that will support the ability to work with the cards and synchronize with the cloud service.

0.7.5 Statistics - and finish in 2017 will be updated with improved statistics module.

But beginning in 2018 should be very hot and like to see it greeted us with version 0.8.0, which will be available the opportunity to work with several series in one project.

There are the our plans :)

I want to thank everyone for your support, for your comments, for what you share error detection and help fix them. Thanks to everyone who in one way or another involved in the life of the project in the past year! And if you are still interested, then stay with us, together will surely be fun!

On a personal note I want to wish all of us to be a little kinder to the next year to write the good and honest stories, stories that I would like to watch with children! I do not know what sort of trends in the industry, but I personally would like to see in the coming year there were more family, kind and pure cinema that is through laughter and tears would be cleansed hearts of the audience, thought-provoking and become all of us better! Thank you!

Happy New Year!

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Hi guys!

We will start closed beta-test of cloud service 14 January. An if someone want connect to us you can do it, just send message "I want to take part in closed beta-test of cloud service" from feedback form and we will open for you all capabilities of cloud service and will send beta-version of app to work with cloud.

What cloud service will give to you?
- in cloud you will have 2 gigabytes for store self projects (in middle one project of full-length film without multimedia content occupies about 20 megabytes);
- you will can collaborate with your cowriter in realtime;
- you will can work with cloud project without active internet connection (all changes will be saved directly after network will active again).

Beta-test will last until February 14, during this time I plan to close all bugs related to cloud service and will publish the stable version. And from 14 February all users of cloud version will have one free month of using it.

Thanks! Have a good day!:)

dimkanovikov 01-14-2017 04:38 PM

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Hi, guys!

Today we are started closed beta-test of the cloud service. I think that we will fix all troubles detected in beta-test in next month and beta-test will moved from closed to open.

Anyone who has had time to apply for participation in the closed testing during the day will be sent an email with further instructions.

It was a long way. It starts about 2 years ago and I very happy that the last summer one guy was connected to project and helps me to go forward without looking back when I was exhausted. And I with a big pleasure want to tell about him!

In spring's end I think: it will be cool if other developer connects to project! And I posted message with this idea to different forums and resources. Guys was looked at the project, said: "Good job!" and nothing more...

When I was not expecting anything, I got a message from Alexey: "Hi! I saw your message about you search developers at Is actual yet?". I remember - when I found this post I was jumping with excitement to the ceiling!:)

We discussed our collaboration. Alexey told about his experience (he is a student in MSU and has some experience with all required systems). I decided that this is enough, the main thing that he have interest and desire to grow. And we started our collaboration.

To this moment I had experience of managing small development teams and it was not so exciting… Often I had to motivate people to do something but they didn't want to do anything. This is quite different. Alex is not very experienced, of course he makes mistakes, but he is not ashamed of them, he is normal to accepts criticism and accepts it with pleasure. He takes the initiative, arguing (respect!), and of course brings a fresh wind. It is very valuable for me. This is a new milestone in the evolution of the project and in my own professional growth too (I think that for Alexey this is useful experience too).

While we warmed up on simple tasks, it turned out that Alex likes to develop things related to network technologies. I suggested that he take up the part of the cloud service, and he agreed. And so we gradually, brick by brick have redesigned cloud service. And now it had improved considerably and is ready for the first test, because of this I want to say thank you, Alex! From the heart!

So, our gang became larger and the project became a much better!

Finally, I've prepared a video about how to use cloud service in the program. I decided, that I will make a video overview for every program update that includes new features. I think, it will be helpful.

Enjoy watching and be ready to start public testing!

Just trying this out now. You might get more response if you post an announcement about Kit Scenarist at this Done Deal Forum instead ...

That's where they unusually talk about screenplay software. I use Linux Mint and -- once I loaded the extra files -- it worked fine. My only issue so far is that, when I do a print preview, Scenarist cuts off the top of my text. It exported fine to Fade In Pro and Trelby, so it's just the printing module that has the issue (I think). I'll keep testing and give another report in a week or so. So far I'm impressed. Thanks.

EDIT: Okay, I figured it out. You have to hit the "Review" icon and all is good with Print Preview. Impressive software. Will continue to test it and will probably write a "mini-review" at the Software forum (above).

Centos, thank you for feedback! I tried to post to that thread, but forum administrator moved my topic to promotion... If I can make new post or if you can make post there it would be great!

But now I continue in current topic!:)

Our friend Pedro Terrero published a video presentation of KIT Scenarist in Spanish! He also made small blog post. If Spanish is your native language or you can read it with the dictionary or with google translate you can read post by link -

It's great to see how our project is crossing through one more barrier - through language barrier!:)

That's odd. Fade In Pro and Trelby announcements were listed in that forum(?). At any rate, I've posted a message with a link to this thread and, when I write a "review" (of sorts), I'll post it there.

That's good to hear. So far I can't find any major issues ... one time when I went from dark theme to light theme it crashed, but it had automatically saved my script, so I didn't lose anything (was only testing anyhow).

Out of curiosity, does Scenarist run on java?

I'm sorry for this. The last version is not strongly stable... It has some bugs in cards module which I resolve now.

No, KIT Scenarist is written in C++ with Qt library. Source code available on GitHub by link

I'm not a programmer, so I'm sorry about my ignorance. I thought I saw something about java in the libxcb-xinerama0 packageyou instructed us to download. So I must made a poor assumption.

I haven't done much with Scenarist the last few days. But I'll give it a good test soon. Thanks.

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Hi, guys! Are you don't get bored without news?

We've got something a lot of new features in version 0.7.1. I will start to slowly reveal the cards! :)

One of the innovations of the future version is a moving of characters and locations into the research module. Now they can do all the same as before plus we added the ability to add to each character any number of any research item by grouping them as needed. And with this release, the characters and locations can be reordered way you want, for example, that the main characters were the first, and you do not have to find them among the rest.

What do you think this will be helpful? How did you develop the characters? locations? Share your recipes!

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Hi, guys!

We have a news - new version released today! KIT Scenarist 0.7.1 beta 1 is ready for use!

So, what's new!?

First, cards module was fully rewritten. Why do I decide to do that? because first was bad. I wanted to take other finished open source diagram editor, polish it and integrate it to Scenarist, but is was not very good... The editor itself contained a large number of errors, which were opened not at once, and, frankly, just do something great, super versatile failed. Well, we are not accustomed to give up - I thought, thought and decided that we should start with the bare minimum, gradually developing it. So I rewrote the editor of cards. Now it allows you to simply lay out the cards in sequence, grouping them into acts. When this functionality will work perfectly, I will expand it, of course, if it will be needed.

Secondly, the characters and locations have moved to the research module. Now they can do all the same as before plus we added the ability to add to each character any number of any research item by grouping them as needed. And with this release, the characters and locations can be reordered way you want, for example, that the main characters were the first, and you do not have to find them among the rest.

Well and thirdly a number of other, smaller improvements:
• added Ukrainian and German translations of the program;
• groups of scenes fully removed from the program. Now for the scenes grouping, you can only use the folders. Groups of scenes in the old projects will be converted to folders;
• changed the dialogue of adding new projects, and now when creating a new project, you can specify the file to be imported;
• in Mac OS X can now open multiple copies of the application, you needs to open the context menu icon in the Dock and choose "New Window" menu item;
• fixes bugs related to grouping/moving scenes and folders;
• fixed an issue with using the special characters in the title scenes;
• now the program will allow you to open projects from newer versions in the compatibility mode;
• fixed a problem with the infinite duplicating of the description of the first scene;
• as well as minor changes in user interface.

Well, as usual, in view of the fact that this is a beta, do not forget to save a copy of the working draft, in the event that it was possible to revert to a previous version.

What's next?

So far, in the future plans to develop card to a good level. Make it so that they were easy to use. In a parallel development run mobile versions of software for Android and iOS.

P.S. By the way, we started twitter! If you want to get the news out there, here we are -!

P.P.S. And yet, we have to actively use GitHub for tracking tasks and errors detected, if you are want to look at our inner kitchen, you can do so here - Anyway, you can report errors directly there, and when the error is fixed, system will send notification to you!;)

dimkanovikov 02-23-2017 06:28 AM

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Salute, comrades!

I want to say thank you for fast feedback and error reports. I already prepared the next beta version. It adds functional for printing cards. You can print them into Index Cards or on other paper, just specify cards count per page.

And in the second beta we fixed all critical bugs which were found in the first beta:

• fixed problems with the research module (flickering, freezing, crashing by using the context menu, and when you update the project name);
• on the card now displayed scene number;
• finally fixed the problem with the duplicate description of the scene (that sometimes also resulted in a freeze of the program);
• refined dialog for creating/editing card;
• updated translation files;
• improved drawing cards and acts;
• fixes many problems with the cards (problems with drag and drop cards into the acts, the problem with the change its titles and descriptions);
• fixed a problem transferring the text from the synopsis to outline and further work on it;
• improved algorithms for text correction (smart quotes, DOuble CApitals and other).

Thanks for the help! Tests continue!

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Good day!

And here is the next beta version KIT Scenarist 0.7.1 beta 3 is published!
It added another useful feature - group cards.
What do you need to do for this?
1. Add a new card to the act, which will group the other cards.
2. Call context menu of this card and select the item "Convert to folder"
3. Drag and drop your cards into the group.
And other bugs was fixed, namely:
• fixed a problem with re-editing the description of the scene in the cards;
• now the mindmaps scene will be exactly the size as you need for the scheme.
What's next?
Perhaps this will be the last innovation in the current version. Next only to debug and polish the current functionality. But this does not mean that we'll stop development - no! I still have a lot of ideas on how we can improve the work with the cards, but see it in the following episode! Stay with us!;)

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Hi everybody!

We released KIT Scenarist version 0.7.1 beta 4. It includes the ability to check and install application updates.

Also, we fixed a couple of shortcomings:
• improved algorithm for determining the scenes when importing *.docx-files;
• fixed a problem with the appearance of broken review comment when deleting text;
• we prepared rpm-packages for Linux.

In addition, today we are launching an open test of the cloud service. Anyone who previously registered in the cloud, you will need to change the password. For those who don't have an account, you can create a new one (it can be done directly in the program). Free access to work with the cloud will be open until May 1, 2017. On April 1, 2017, we will plan to transfer cloud service in production mode.

Read more about the cloud service:
• it allows you to store your projects in the cloud and access them directly from the program on all computers without work with any third-party service (in the future projects from the cloud can also be synced to and from the mobile version of the program);
• to projects in the cloud, you can connect the co-authors or editors, for this purposes we prepared two roles for partners: commentator and editor, with appropriate restrictions for editing text or without them;
• you can work with cloud projects both online and offline, all the changes you have made in the absence of the Internet will be synchronized when you reconnect to the Internet;
• in the cloud you have 2 GB of disk space to store own projects;
• when cloud service will work stable, access to it will operate on a subscription. Projects will be deleted from the cloud if you have not activated the subscription within 30 days from the date of its completion. During this time, (and indeed at any time), you can save a local copy of every project from the cloud.

And finally, an introductory video on how to work with the cloud service in the program:

Enjoy watching and have a nice day!:)

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Hey, guys!

Finally, I found some time and prepared next update for you. KIT Scenarist 0.7.1 beta 5 released!

In this update I fix some bugs related to cards module and made some other improvements:
• fixed bug with losing stamp in cards;
• new cards now added not after the last card, but after selected card, or in mouse double position;
• fixed bug with loading dictionaries spell check for Windows and Linux;
• card's titles now printed identically with cards on the screen;
• in research module, after adding a new item, an application will be focused on the added item.

So we are still a few steps closer to the release of the stable version. Once again I want to express my gratitude to all of you! Thank you for participating, friends!

Check it -

dimkanovikov 04-01-2017 05:46 AM

Re: Open source software for screenwriters

We released the next beta version of the KIT Scenarist 0.7.1 beta 7.

In this update:
• fixed the problem with crash when closing;
• fixed the problem with deleting research documents;
• improved the mechanism for downloading spelling dictionaries;
• fixed the problem with the inability to select a file to export/import in Mac OS X;
• fixed the problem with closing the dialog for sending the error report in Windows;
• the interface is also slightly improved.

This is the latest beta in the current development branch of the project. I plan to allocate another week or two for testing and moving it into a stable status.

And afterward, I'll work hard on mobile applications! Have a nice weekend, guys!:)

Check it

dimkanovikov 04-08-2017 06:48 AM

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Hey hey! Hi, guys!

It's me again and again with the update!

Before talking about the update, I want to tell you about one change in the naming of the versions of the program. From today, versions of the programs will be divided into two categories:

1. Beta versions
Here everything is the same - they are the latest versions, in which there is a new functionality, but they can contain critical errors.

2. RC versions
This is a replacement for our "stable" versions. RC stands for the release candidate. I decided to do so because to call our versions "stable" is pretty naive. Yes, they fixed the most critical bugs, but still, they are far from stable, they have other, uncritical errors, and maybe even critical ones, which we simply could not find out yet. On the other hand, it also confuses the users themselves, "Well, how can a stable program work unstable, apparently the developer's hands have curves ...". And I really would like to believe that this is not so :)

So today we publish a non-stable version and the version of KIT Scenarist 0.7.1 rc 1. I hope no one confused.

Well, now let's get back to the update itself. It included the following improvements:

• the translation of the program into Portuguese has been added, and all other translations have been updated;
• fixed the problem with the disappearance of the text of the script when switching to full-screen mode;
• fixed a bug where the description of one character could be replaced by another's description;
• fixed a bug related to editing review comments;
• fixed the problem with freezing the interface when starting the program due to the dialogue with the message about the application update;
• slightly improved interface.

At the moment this is the most stable version, so if you still at 0.7.0, then I advise you to upgrade. To find out more about what went into the new version, you can follow these links:

Beta 1 -
Beta 2 -
Beta 3 -
Beta 4 -
Beta 5 -
Beta 6 -
Beta 7 -

And among other things, from today the cloud service move to battle mode. You can also work with cloud service, starting with version 0.7.1.

I express my deep gratitude to all participants of the closed and open testing of the cloud, to all participants of the beta testing of the new possibilities of the program itself, to all participants in discussions at forums, in social networks and personal correspondence. A low bow to you, friends! Thank you!

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Hey hey guys!

For a long time we did not have news about of the rubric #filmedbyusersscreenplays, it's time to fill in the blanks. And the first in line is the Christmas work of Eugene Puzyrevsky, which is called "Mom is always near." If you have not seen on TV, or on the Internet - get ready, it will be sharp!

And besides the film itself, you can read the text of the script in the KIT format, or in PDF format.

Enjoy watching!

P.S. And, of course, friends, if new films are shot according to your scripts - share! Send teasers, trailers, shorts and feature films. And, if possible, share scripts, maybe in time we will organize a whole library of scripts and films based on them!

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Hey, people!

Who wanna a fresh update!?

Currently, we are moving for improvement and fixing of detected errors, so here's a list of changes of the new version:
• improved rendering of the script editor (fixed various errors in which the script editor moved outside the visible area);
• improved the responsiveness of the script editor to scale and resize;
• when previewing documents, if possible, the app restore the last position where the document was scrolled;
• fixed the problem with spontaneous resizing of the window when opening or hiding the search bar;
• fixed the problem with restoring the size of the app window when opened;
• fixed the bug with moving scene description from current scene to new added;
• fixed the problem with displaying review notes for cloud projects;
• fixed the problem with the renaming of cloud projects in some cases;
• now when you open the comment adding dialog, the focus is immediately set in the input field;
• the way of interaction with the list of projects is slightly improved;
• fixed the problem with the size of the cards of the folder which was ungrouped;
• the correct operation of the shortcut Shift + Delete is restored;
• in the script editor near the scenes, their main colors are now displayed, if any, for the scene;
• blocked the missed opportunity to change projects for cloud project commentators;
• added import of FDXT files;
• improved the work of spelling dictionaries - the names of characters are now not underlined in red, fixed the problem with adding words to the user dictionary;
• spelling dictionaries for Portuguese and Swedish are added.

Now the candidate is even closer to the release, but we do not finish it - if you know any other problems in the program, please report them!

In addition, we have two more news:
1. The site has a price section. You can find it by clicking on this link - If there are still any questions, then ask, I will respond to you and at the same time replenish the information on the page.
2. Now news on the site can be commented (for this you can click on the appropriate link under the text of the news on the site)! Soon I plan to launch the development of help to the program in a new way. It will be something like wiki pages. And I also want to make a centralized forum on the site where you could discuss the future of the program, share your recipes and ask questions.

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Hey, guys! We have not had news for a long time, but do not worry, we are still in the business and will soon release the next update, a little more stable.

In the meantime, I seem to be ripe for a new adventure! :) I want to make a library of scripts. That it was possible to select directly in the program the author, year or country and immediately download the script and touch it. Could you share the scripts that were published in open access? Maybe you have your own library of such scripts? Or can you advise the Internet resources, where the scripts are published and we can use them?

P.S. If you prefer to use the email, then the address where you can send information is

Re: Open source software for screenwriters

I'm glad to publish the next update of KIT Scenarist 0.7.1 rc4, which included a number of improvements and fixes:
• fixed the problem of creating a project in the cloud, with no connection to the Internet;
• the amount of used space in the cloud is now displayed in the user cabinet;
• the problem with checking spelling in abbreviations has been fixed;
• fixed the problem with deleting comments related to the text that was erased;
• improved rendering of the script editor in pagination mode;
• and other minor improvements and bug fixes.

I want to say thank you for everyone! Your bug reports greatly helps to fix error much faster, although, frankly, not always the reports help to understand everything about the issue... Sometimes it is just necessary to know how to reproduce this or that bug, so please, do not be angry if I suddenly interrogate with a passion for the topic "how did you do it?" :)

Have a nice day and creative mood!

Re: Open source software for screenwriters

We took another small step forward and prepared the version KIT Scenarist 0.7.1 rc5. It included the following improvements:
• fixed the problem with the putting of folders at the third and more deeper level of nesting;
• improved responsiveness of the program when creating a new project;
• improved display of scene colors in the scenes navigator (now the scene has one main color, and all the others are considered secondary);
• added the ability to view the full text of the scene right in the navigator, you need to hold down Ctrl (Cmd on Mac) and then move the mouse cursor over the scene, the text of which you want to see;
• improved the algorithm for preserving the names of the characters and the scene headings;
• improved highlighting the current block in the script.

In addition, this update adds a compact mode (Settings - Application - Compact mode) for monitors with low resolution and those who like more compact interfaces. And for screens with a resolution of fewer than 1360 pixels in width, the use of a two-panel mode is prohibited, for the reason that it simply does not fit into such a small screen. Screenshot:

There is also good news for owners of old Macs who do not want to update the operating system to the latest version - now together with the main version for Mac OS X we will release a version based on old libraries with the code name granny :) It will work on Mac OS X, starting with version OS X Lion 10.07. The only thing that in this version there will be some known problems, for example now, shortcuts didn't work properly for changing paragraph style in some cases. Otherwise, the granny version should work without significant differences from the main version for Mac OS X.

P.S. Now updates do not come out as often as we would like ... But it's not that we abandoned the project, in fact, we are hiding! Now we are very interested in the development of mobile versions for both Android and iOS and I think that within a month or two we will publish mobile applications. Mobile applications will be paid. At the start, a price will be equal to 99 Rubles. At the beginning, they will include the ability to edit script text, import and export from/to any sources (Dropbox, iCloud, Google Drive, etc.). You can work in the application with projects located both on your device and with cloud projects in our service (of course, with the possibility of collaborative editing). And after we release mobile applications, we switch to the desktop version, so much has accumulated, that our hands are scratching to take it! :)

Re: Open source software for screenwriters

A lot of time has passed since we started working on a mobile version, but it's time to share the first results of this work. Happy to introduce you to the Android version!

The first version includes next features:
• creation of projects on the device and in the cloud service;
• viewing screenplay text and editing it in accordance with industry standards;
• view the list of scenes and navigate the text of the script;
• import scripts from the fdx, fountain, docx and kitsp formats from any installed application;
• export scripts to pdf, fdx, fountain docx and kitsp formats in any of the installed applications.

The first version is not yet complete. In the next month or two, there will be a few updates that will add, at a minimum, a built-in help and an opportunity to edit title page.

Like I said before, the mobile version will be paid. Starting with 99 rubles.

You can download the app via or you can search the Play Market on our application name.

Well, as usual, guys, if you see any problems, glitches, bugs, or suggestions, I'm ready to discuss everything and make the app even better.

Let's go!

P.S. Version for iOS in work and we really want to release it as soon as possible. So don't worry, folks, it's near to be done.

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Hey, guys!

We have a lot of news today!:)

First, the event of the day - the version for iOS has already been approved to the AppStore and it is available for download! It turned out that Apple has recently switched to accelerated application reviewing and now it lasts not 2 weeks, but 1-2 days! So guys, who were waiting for this moment - he came! I'm very happy and congratulate all of us on the release of the KIT Scenarist version for iOS!!!

Next is not very good news - we have got a mistake with the cost of the application, it turned out that in the AppStore we can not set the price yourself, and we can only use default price grids, as a result, the first version for iOS will cost not 99, but 149 rubles, I apologize for my ignorance in this matter, in the future I will be more attentive.

The next news about the Android version. Today, we published an update that fixes program crashes when importing scripts from Dropbox in some cases.

Well, the latest news is dedicated to pirates and those who decide to use their services. We got information that the apk-files of the Android-version appear on the network. We were ready for this, so we decided to present you a gift - a version of the program which wasn't installed from the Google Play Market, will continue to work. Except for one small nuance - sometimes the program will delete a random script from the phone. Be ready, pirate life is full of dangers !;)

So, this is the link to download iOS version from AppStore.

Have a good day, my friends!:)

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Salute, guys!

We have an update - meet the version of KIT Scenarist 0.7.1 rc 6!

And in it:
• improved synchronization of research documents in the cloud service;
• fixed the problem of closing the save file and open file dialogs in Mac OS X when working with cloud projects;
• fixed the problem with the fall of the program when switching between mind maps in research;
• fixed the problem in the work of hot keys in mental maps;
• fixed a lot of bugs in the cards due to which there were "ghost" cards, fixed problems with undo and redo, the cards disappeared, etc. If you had same problems with your projects, in order for the cards to work normally, you will have to create a new project and put a script into it;
• fixed a problem with export to MS Word, when review marks contain links;
• fixed the problem with displaying the current script editor template, in some cases, it was displayed incorrectly;
• the double dash is no longer emphasized as a spelling mistake;
• now when importing, app checks that the imported file exists and not empty, if something went wrong, the import is interrupted;
• added processing of the case of merging characters: if you decide to merge two characters into one, you can now change the character's name to the desired one and two characters will be merged into one, descriptions of both characters are also merged;
• have been added translations to Farsi and Chinese.

Also, we signed Mac OS X version, so, now it should allow using application without any restrictions.

I wish everyone a nice day and a sunny mood!

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Hi, people!

The next update has already been published!

And in it:
• the problem of reopening mind maps has now been completely fixed;
• fixed a small regression from the previous version with the display of the scene numbers in the script editor;
• one more bug when scene numbers was zero is fixed (I hope this was the last problem associated with this);
• another problem with the synchronization of projects with collaborators through the cloud was found and fixed;
• the dialogs for adding cards, scenes and design elements have been slightly improved.

It seems that version 0.7.1 will soon be rightfully called stable!:) Meanwhile, we are moving on to work on the next version of KIT Scenarist 0.7.2. In it, many improvements and useful tools will come to us. As I prepare, I will publish small reviews of various innovations.

In addition, we are waiting for a couple of updates to the mobile version, which will add the ability to copy/paste/search for text, the ability to edit the title page and help. And then more and more updates :) I feel, in the future, a mobile version will need a separate site or, at least section on the site.

Well, for now ... download the update and go to tell your incredible stories!

Re: Open source software for screenwriters
Hi, guys!

I hope you are not bored here especially without news and updates!?:)

The silence was because I had a vacation from the main job, but I was so relaxed that even a taken laptop for daily two-hour work on KIT was gathering dust all this time... But now I well rested and ready for new accomplishments! Now, for sure, we'll rock!

P.S. And how do you relax? It turns out? Or do you, like programmers, always work in the background in the head, even during the rest?
