  • Entertainment Lawyer fees?

    Hey guys and gals,

I've spoken with a few entertainment lawyers regarding an option agreement I'd like to have looked over. They all want a $3,500 - $5,000 retainer, estimating the cost to be around $3,000. Is this the norm? I didn't anticipate it being so much.

I'd love to hear any thoughts!

    Thanks!

That seems really high to me. I'd keep looking if I were you. Small independents are likely to give you the best cost as opposed to some swanky big name outfit. I've paid less than $500 on more than one occasion.

Established entertainment attorneys generally charge 5%. That means I'm paying a couple of grand on an option, and more if it gets exercised. That being said, he negotiated the deal terms for me, too.

          Hi Ronaldinho,

Thank you for your input! Unfortunately, my option amount is only $3,000 so the attorneys I've spoken with won't do a percentage, understandably.

            Yeah.

Are you in California? Give these guys a buzz:

Maybe you can find someone who will do it a little cheaper.

If you hire an attorney for a percentage... and the deal falls through (ie. you don't get paid because there is some sort of disagreement).... are you still charged something? And how much?
