Re: Lit Agent for Dope-Ass Teen Sci-Fi Novel?

+1

I will add, that my manager never told studios or prodcos that my script received high ratings on the black list. They judged the work on the writing.

Re: Lit Agent for Dope-Ass Teen Sci-Fi Novel?

In my opinion, listing well-respected contests that you've made placings in can help you. What people are pushing back on is the appearance of inflating those possible placings, or deliberately...

Re: Writer gets fired from upcoming Law & Order spinoff for controversial comments

Nothing like inciting a little violence. Yikes! Can't even understand his choice... is that a REAL weapon?

Twitter isn't your home, locker room, or a private party. It's the world. If you post ****...

Re: Can brief, inconsequential dialogue be put into action?

This is correct. Remember actors are paid MORE if they have speaking roles, even if it's two words.

In lieu of speaking parts, you can have a character give a look in place of dialogue. You could...

Re: Midpoint

Yikes. Sorry I misunderstood you.

But, you jumped into the debate/convo about Star Wars' midpoint along with everyone else when you commented on what Syd Field said after there were a few comments,...

Re: Midpoint

You're hilarious. You started the thread, Bono. If you didn't think there was a discussion worth having, why bother posting it at all?

You started a thread. Got people commenting on it. You've...

Re: Midpoint

I'm still standing by my opinion. We don't have to agree. Alderaan being destroyed is a setback and the heroes will have to come up with a new strategy, but their goal remains the same. To get the...

Re: Midpoint

Except it was blown up.

Luke wanted to join the rebellion from the start of the film. He talked about it on Tatooine when he heard C3PO and R2D2 say they were part of the rebellion. His eyes were...

Re: Scene Practice

Did you add to this? I read it last week, I think, but it was a lot shorter, no? Because my first comment, at that time was going to be that it doesn't feel like a complete scene. Now it does.

I...

Re: Midpoint

A midpoint turn is an effective way to write toward an event that pushes the main character past the point of no return. They commit fully to to their goal and cannot turn back to the safety of the...

Re: The Last 10 Days

Unfortunately for my writing, I am working 10-11 hour days on a full-time job that, coupled with the COVID-19 virus running amuck, has negatively impacted my ability to turn out pages.

I finished a...

Re: Lit Agent for Dope-Ass Teen Sci-Fi Novel?

If an indy pro wants to find a diamond in the rough, they're going to have to dredge through a knee-deep bunch of crap. That's the job and I'm pretty sure they know it.

If they don't want to find...

Re: Trim Down That Spec

Or like Ulana Khomyuk in Chernobyl who is the culmination of several scientists that came together to reveal the terrible danger that was coming.

Re: Trim Down That Spec

If the pros can write a script that comes in under 120, I'd better be able to do it, too.

This is why outlining can help. Some people can write with their outline in their head, so I'm not saying...

Re: First 10 (or 1) page

No one needs to contact Chris Lockhart about something he said 15 years ago. That's ridiculous. My reading comprehension is fine.

I can form my own opinion and have. I need to read no further.

Re: First 10 (or 1) page

Have you read page one of A BEAUTIFUL MIND? It's gorgeous, compelling writing, both visually and through dialogue.

And when they say a soft opening, they're not talking about a "boring"...

Re: Three Act Structure (Part 2)

sc11 is right. It is semantics.

Your opinion is your opinion, but your belief in wrong.

No one calls Act 2a ACT2 and Act 2b ACT3. Literally no one says that.

You don't have the authority to ban...

Re: First 10 (or 1) page

Or and entertaining example like, Drax, in Guardians of the Galaxy, where he's standing...

Re: First 10 (or 1) page

I think that the objectivity can come in the form of a delayed acceptance. It's like the stages of death, right? Not nearly as bad, so maybe a poor comparison, but that's what comes to mind....

Re: Three Act Structure (Part 2)

Sc111 is not a mean girl.

I will vote to keep figment, like their style.

Bono didn't mean it, he was just kidding.

There is nothing flawed about the four-act structure. It breaks the vastness of...
