Re: Free rewrite during option period?

You are so right, Ed. Have you seen that video of Harlan Ellison (sp?), PAY THE WRITER?

Re: Free rewrite during option period?

I told the producer she would have to give me an advance against the purchase price for the extensive rewrite she has in mind. No surprise I haven't heard from her since:)

Re: Offered commission to write screenplay

Get a ballpark for the budget and ask for 2 percent.

Re: Subjectivity

Just my opinion, but why not forget your writing group and paid coverage and just send it out to producers? I've sold and optioned scripts and had one produced, and I've never entered a contest or...

Re: Free rewrite during option period?

Thanks for that good advice. This is a significant rewrite, resetting an American thriller in a foreign country with significant changes to the storyline. Basically shoehorning a story into an open...

Free rewrite during option period?

This comes up all the time and I need some advice.

A producer options a script of mine -- some have been zero options, others $1,000 to $2,500 -- and wants an extensive rewrite during the option...

Re: Need A New Agent

One step at a time. I'm hunting a new agent. I reached out to the producers who have bought or optioned my scripts. I'll see where that goes.

Re: Need A New Agent

I like my manager and he just got me a rewrite job. Also, I never screw anybody out of money. My agent only has one deal working with my scripts. He hasn't even read the others. If that deal closes,...

Re: Need A New Agent

I don't know the answer then. I'm looking for a referral to a new agent. I've got deals in the works and two new scripts.

Re: Need A New Agent

Bill, I don't think agents take on clients who haven't already earned something or have a deal on the table. I've sold several scripts and had one produced and usually can't get an agent to even...

Re: Need A New Agent

No lawyer. I'm already shelling out enough for my reps from my meager earnings:)

Re: Need A New Agent

I'm working on that angle too. I just thought a writer here might know of an agent willing to consider a new client.

Need A New Agent

I'm looking for an introduction to a new agent. Here is a thumbnail sketch of my resume:

I wrote the script for the 2011 Lionsgate movie HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN.
Two weeks ago, I SOLD (not optioned)...

Website: screenwritersforhire.com ?????

Has anyone heard of or been hired by the company that runs the website http://screenwritersforhire.com?

I figure it must be a scam, but I thought I'd check.

Re: Dividing Time Among Scripts?

Believe me, I know how fortunate it is to have so much work. I like your idea of the A, B, C schedule. I'm wondering, though, from a mathematical standpoint, and the reason for my question, by...

Re: Dividing Time Among Scripts?

Thanks for the insight. It's not hypothetical. I suddenly find myself with two rewrites and another contract to adapt one of my books into a script, and everyone expects them soon. None of these are...

Dividing Time Among Scripts?

Say you have two paying rewrite jobs. Do you split time each day between them or write one and then the other?

Re: Rewrites

Yes, it does not seem practical at all to tear up your first draft and write another from scratch.

Yeah, Jeff, I have sold some books and movies, and you're right, my system is working for me. But I have one script that is coming out of an option that has tied it up for years, so now I want to do...
