Re: 12 Strong

I've only seen the trailer, but it was so jaundiced from the outset that there's a moment where even the horse literally stands up to terrorism.

I felt I was good letting that be both my ambassador...

Re: Deadwood

As somebody who can safely say that Deadwood is my all-time favorite television show, I will take the movie and be happy.

If Milch wanted to do anything beyond that, I'd be supportive, but all he's...

Re: Bad movie: what's wrong?

As stated, Boll comes at you right before shooting with a fistful of cash, but I don't take such a grim view of the guy... he made one movie I enjoyed (Postal, which actually explored his frustration...

Re: Brand yourself as a single genre writer?

I've heard the advice before, and it always makes sense to me. The business reasons are already well-listed by others, but I should also add that we all know writing is a skill that needs...

Re: Continuous use of -DAY or -NIGHT

I would only ever use CONTINUOUS if there were some stylistic element at play, such as wanting to portray an unbroken shot.

DAY and NIGHT, by my preference, would be used about each and every time....

Max Landis is... writing a Pepe Le Pew script

http://deadline.com/2016/07/max-landis-writing-pepe-le-pew-animated-movie-comic-con-1201791718/

"But he has a couple of problems — his malodorous scent and his refusal to take “no” for an...

Re: Ghostbusters Trailer

It's fair to say that Feig reacted badly, even childishly, to how people were acting.

But it's also fair to say people were acting very violently and idiotically. Yeah, aspects of this film veer...

Re: Ghostbusters Trailer

Studio logic is always to chase the money, though. Any of those are okay choices. If you were doing things for the art, you'd probably stay away from Abrams after the Star Trek reboot, which was fun...

Re: Ghostbusters Trailer

I get the feeling that if you like The Heat, you'd likely enjoy this.

It doesn't sound offensive, just lazy.

Re: Your Favorite Video Game, Story-Wise (and why)

Planescape: Torment, and most anything by that team and its descendant companies. I mean Alpha Protocol was not a well-assembled package, but had an insane amount of research behind the humint...

Re: Ghostbusters Trailer

Honestly a bit surprised at lackluster box office numbers. The Hollywood premiere was insane. I went down there to review a restaurant, and wound up having to hang out because it was impossible to...

Re: Ghostbusters Trailer

If the critical consensus is at all to be trusted, then people giving this a vindication watch will enjoy it because they want to. People giving it a hate watch will hate it because they want to....

Re: Captain Fantastic

Saw a screening. I recommend it. It sounds like damning praise to call it Wes Anderson Lite, but that's the phrase that popped into my head more than once while watching it.

Pitch Black

Checking out this script and I thought there was a neat device in it to convey inner thoughts, as it was a film that contained a lot of "unspoken dialog." I think it was used a bit excessively, but...

Re: Ghostbusters Trailer

That really does sound like the seed of a potentially good idea.

Which means it's a good idea, if that sounds a bit stern.

I think one thing that made the original so good... and really, that makes...

Re: Ghostbusters Trailer

The positives here are Kate McKinnon and the ghosts. McKinnon looks like she's having fun and she's a generally fresh character to what looks like an otherwise stale reboot. The ghosts look great, so...

Re: Most Anticipated Film Of Fall/Winter 2015?

So just curious, did he propaganize on behalf of a government-butchered 60 million people, or on behalf of a government THAT butchered 60 million people?

Re: Mad Max 4

I adored the film. I didn't know what to make of Hardy as Max... you have to keep in mind I'm fond enough of his work... but he was pretty boring here. Not blaming him, it was a combination of his...

Re: Movies about two groups hunting the same coveted object?

The Good, The Bad, The Weird is a film that will apparently be on Netflix forever, and involved three main characters either seeking a treasure or each others' heads, with extra groups also seeking...

Re: So how does "The Prisoner" on blu ray end up costing $219?

Yeah, it's a weird relic that only occasionally pops up, but rarity still occasionally happens. Back in the VHS days, tapes were released to rental first and some never received a "home" release, so...

Re: Daredevil!

Spoilery here, but while I agree with just about all the positive comments, and I know I'm basically alone here, I felt the ending was rather too on the nose. Fisk was defeated in the manner the show...

Re: Ex Machina

Pretty strong. Really a slow boiler and surprisingly spare, which makes the rare comedic or shocking scenes really that much stronger. A very manipulative film that so much as announces it's pulling...

Duck Tales

Well, my Facebook feed exploded off the screen and directly into my face this morning with the news. Duck Tales is headed back to television in 2017. Seems like good timing for the nostalgia wave,...
