Re: Movie Length Tales by Aisle Seat Books

Hi Graybooks,

Apologies in advance for the scepticism .. we've all seen plenty of small publishers set up that achieve so little, so it is a little natural that people are cautious.

The good news,...

Re: I need help from someone with writing experience

Hang on. That's totally wrong.

1) He was given a suggestion to post it in the password protected section of the site for feedback.
2) He did it.
3) He got plenty of feedback on his first 10...

Re: Redwine Management

Silly question .. but outside of your friend and a rather dubious looking Craigslist ad .. have you ever heard of 'Redwine Management' or their 'mp/tv literary department' ? Has anyone?

And you...

Re: Execution Needs Work

This isn't right.

You don't have to put up a major stink about it .. but you do need to be responsible to other writers and give honest information to others so that they can choose whether to enter...

Re: West Wing vs. everything else

I've never thought about that before .. but that's spot on.

Absolutely spot on.

I don't think it's limited to politics either .. the shows I like make me want to be involved and surround myself...

Re: Interstellar

Agreed. I'm a big fan of hard sci-fi.

But one thing that you notice when you read hard sci-fi from the 1800s is how small and limited most of their views of the future were. Look at Poe for...

Re: Movies with adult/kid friendship

Disney's - The Kid

Between a kid and the Adult he grew up to become. (A bit of time travel-ish-ness involved)

KID
No dog? I grow up to be a guy with
no...

Re: Equity split- Award winning novel seeking exp screenwriter for adaptation

We've all heard that old maxim.

That maxim has done a lot of people a lot of harm.

You've offered a proposal.

But you can't get genuine feedback on a proposal if you insist that "Only give...

Re: Orphan Black on BBC America: Damn...what a premise.

I wasn't a fan of the finale.

Obvious spoiler warnings below.

The intro (cutting between something in the future and the present) was just confusing .. but I can see why the did it - to build up...

Re: Thanks for the idea...you're no longer needed

Sometimes the license fees are about massive webs of contracts rather than copyright law .. especially when the one of the parties created both. (The X-Factor .v. Idol agreements seem to follow this...

Re: Thanks for the idea...you're no longer needed

No - you wouldn't have to see every film in the world (unless it is unique) .. just until you find another one that matches the description. Or close enough for a 3rd party to see them as similar...

Re: Thanks for the idea...you're no longer needed

Obviously none of us know your script or this particular film .. but we've all seen plenty of these lawsuits.

Some thoughts:

1. You had a certain style of antagonist. Is there ANY film in the...

Re: Cliche Concepts

I've found that this is a *really* practical choice for low budget film making, though.

Many strip clubs aren't really open during the day so are available for filming during the day. The regular...

Flying to Paris on a super secret mission to rescue a teenage girl who walks around naked all the time?

It would be difficult to PREVENT him from wanting...

But if you want to know things like that (because the film has piqued your interest) then the best place for the filmmakers to communicate information like that is on the film's website .. not in the...

Re: Is there an appetite for "hard" sci-fi? after...

Of course there's an appetite. Gravity did pretty well. It was as 'hard' sci-fi as sci-fi can be. (Yes - there's mismatch of orbital calculations, but apart from that ...)

So what?

It's a...

Re: The Other Woman fails Bechdel Test, critics dislike like it yet BO looks good

Who considers it a legitimate diagnostic tool for women characters?

It's kinda like the 'sneaking through airvents' test of action movies. It doesn't mean that if an action film passes it that the...

Re: WGA credit jurisdiction

That explains it.

I've often wondered why not even a guy like Shakespeare could get a screenplay credit on films where he literally wrote every single line of dialog on the film.

Poor chap ......

Re: Scriptnotes 134: New Format

I don't understand how you could have a script like 'Flight of the Phoenix' without a diagram of some kind.

Sure - you could write an essay explaining how to make a new aircraft from the old one...

Re: Any Australian screenwriters? Questions about AWG draft rates and other things.

He may not be taking you for a ride .. but it sounds rather clueless.

For a start - the insurance argument sounds like gibberish. Screen NSW protect themselves against this scenario by providing...
