Re: Life Story Deal

I do have a lawyer working on this with me. This question came up before I had a chance to speak about it with her (busy woman). I was just wondering if there was a standard for these things, I...

Re: Life Story Deal

I knew this would be a strange one. Take these fictional numbers as an example of a production company that wants to buy the script to a true story along with the rights:

1) Let's say that you're...

Life Story Deal

I have obtained the life rights and written a screenplay that a production company wants. They acquire the life rights and my screenplay in the deal. Because this process has the added expense of...

Re: Question about copyright

I guess what I'm imagining in this scenario is if I chop 30 pages of scenes and dialogue and if its any good, I could recycle those scenes and dialogue in another script. First thought that comes to...

Re: Question about copyright

Copy right the latest version before you sell it to the prodco. That way if there is some gem in those thirty pages you want to use elsewhere, it's not a part of what you gave the prodco. Problem...

Re: Packaging

This is where the dog chases his tail. Money wants to know if "names" are attached. "Names" want to know if it's funded. If it's not funded certain names don't want to talk to you. If you don't...

Re: Packaging

The "pre-pro" writer isn't going to get representation. If you have a connection you better use it! Feel it out and try not to abuse the relationship, but this whole business is about...

Re: Anthology Movies

It doesn't sound like your very focused yet so it makes it hard to get onboard with you. I don't have a vision of your vision yet.

Screenplay Release Forms

I've been dealing a lot lately in the UK and it seems to be a bit more casual than in the US, but I came across a post that mentioned a "Release Form."

Now, I've been contacting producers in the UK...

Re: A dumb question? "Annotated" specs and examples?

I would guess that in most cases the people who are going all out like that are the producers or directors that are trying to get green lit for a project from a studio or financiers by giving them...

Re: Original vs. Adapted Screenplay

In my case I have a choice. I wrote a screenplay about a guy and he is still writing his book. I have had a couple of hours of video interviews, personal and telephone conversations and have read...

Original vs. Adapted Screenplay

Is an Original screenplay worth more to ones writing career than an Adapted screenplay? Does one have more value over the other?

Re: A dumb question? "Annotated" specs and examples?

Visuals can help if you are trying to get across something difficult to express. George Lucas did that with his famous still paintings for Star Wars, the battle scene in Pearl Harbor was made into a...

Re: Need Agent ASAP

Made several inquiries but their policies are that they only entertain new prospective clients with industry referrals only. So I'll make some more calls and see what I can pull together.

Thanks Ernie, I've called CAA but they only do music and sports in London, so I need to contact them in LA. I'm just waiting for LA to wake up and I'll start making calls.
