Re: The Last 10 Days

2006, when gas was still sub $2.00/gallon (or so). Had to be in LA 3 days from the time I left Maryland, so no time to sightsee along the way. Stuck to the economy motel chains, which I think were...

Re: The Last 10 Days

My east coast-LA move was several years ago now but I was able to load the contents of a studio apt (futon, some dressers/tables/desks, etc) onto a movers van and then drive out myself to meet the...

Re: CAA reached deal with WGA

I mean, they've had several high-profile defections from their lit department off to become managers, so the writing is kind of on the wall about how that's going to keep going if nothing changes. ...

Re: Austin 2020

Apparently some redditors and twitter people have posted about getting their second-rounder letters/calls in the past few days.

Re: Austin 2020

Used to be Labor Day was a harder deadline for notification calls and letters to go out but as they've expanded categories and had some turnover at the competition director position, it feels like...

Re: Made the Black List "Top List" - how can I use that?

I had a pilot get 7s and into the featured front page for a month. Got multiple industry downloads, of which one producer reached out to me for a meeting (but mine was a period drama a la Mad Men so...

Re: Timings to specific page

On features, over time, I've become mainly aware of sequence units, i.e., what's happening in the next 12-15 pages of the story. Still feel pretty crap at making them work well as standalone pieces...

Re: Developement Notes and Chain-Of-Title

Thinking like a lawyer, I'm inclined to disclose everything up front because I never want anyone to be surprised. It's not really for me to say what a subsequent producer "needs" to know about chain...

Re: Developement Notes and Chain-Of-Title

But legally, that's JZ's whole point of memorializing the understanding up front before any of the work begins (which is why I would fall on his side of over-agreeing versus relying on a handshake...

Re: Signing with Lawyer -- Lawyer agreement question

Yes, all attorneys are required to enter into a fee agreement with each client that specifically details the scope of engagement and the fee structure(s) to be charged.

And yes that reimbursement...

Re: Writing Partnership Termination Agreement?

An "agreement" implies a contract that both parties have mutually assented to. It doesn't sound like you and your ex-partner are at that stage yet. Just write a letter laying out (1) your...

Re: TV bible question

I write my series docs in Helvetica 12 pt. No real reason why, other than I'm usually sick of looking at Courier after writing a script to completion.

Re: Picking Right Idea

Re: Picking Right Idea

The talent is in having the vision to know it's a good premise. LMM read the same biography by Ron Chernow that thousands of other people were reading in 2008. Any other writer could probably have...

Nicholl only takes features (and only originals) and their numbers have bounced around 7,000 pretty steadily for a while now. My 11:30p entry to Austin FF this year at the deadline was...

Re: Big Break & Scriptapalooza

I've known writers who have won in different categories of each and career-wise didn't movie the needle (the Scriptapalooza win was $25k at the time, which is nothing to sneeze at though)
