Re: Tips For Writing A Screenplay

Or do like Kurt Vonnegut and scribble it on napkins or scraps of paper. Then they will know you are an edgy writer worth the time to read. Worked for him. (In his case a novel, not a screenplay,...

Re: Tips For Writing A Screenplay

I believe that I have unintentionally set this thread onto a tack not intended by the O.P. I apologize for that. I was merely making a quip suggesting that one might want to avoid making gross...

Re: Tips For Writing A Screenplay

It was no jab at you, but a general comment. I have many intelligent friends who make that particular mistake on almost a daily basis.

Re: You can't make this up.

I am not sure what your point is. In my example, I never indicated that my screenplay was based on a single incident, and it was not. I wrote a fictional story that included many scenes based on...

Re: You can't make this up.

And yet, in Training Day, when the hood about to kill the cop finds out the cop had protected his sister from a possible rape, critics said that was too unrealistic for such a coincidence to happen.

Re: You can't make this up.

Yes. I have written scenes in old west screenplays describing actual events from history and had readers tell me to cut the scenes because they were unbelievable. "No one would ever do that."

Re: Referring to scenes from other movies

I see nothing wrong with referring to a well known movie in the narrative or the dialogue.

But... let me tell you what happened to me once.

I wrote a very short screenplay, maybe five pages. I...

Re: A springboard observation ...

There is also danger in actually using terminology or slang relevant to the time period of your story. Kevin Jarre did a fantastic job with his dialogue in the movie Tombstone, but it really...

Re: Flash

Not mine, but it's pretty cool.

Actually, I sorta like the show, but I really do believe a different actor could play the role of Flash better.

Re: Flash

I don't know. I just find the acting rather flat. I enjoyed the show at first, but it seems the Barry character never "grows." When he was on a mission to find his mother's killer and free his dad...
