Re: Star Trek Into Darkness

This was a pretty ok blockbuster, but I felt it suffered from being overwritten as an action movie, where the escalation of from bad to worse moments seemed shoe-horned in and relentless to the point...

Re: My short film

Good job, Justin. It would be good to hear your experience of getting the shoot together; crewing, equipment, financing etc.

Re: Iron Man 3 - New Trailer

Thought this was the best of the trilogy. Very much a great popcorn blockbuster. Humor, surprises, insane action. I loved Ben Kingsley in it, but the whole cast were stellar. Well done, Shane...

Re: Directing a short

Some advice from when I made my short (over a year ago):

1) Get people who can act. Not friends or people you're comfortable with, unless you definitely know they can act.

2) Get a dedicated DOP...

Re: Your Top Three Directors

1) James Cameron
2) Christopher Nolan
3) David Fincher

But more-so the top two because they also write their own stuff.

Re: Zero Dark Thirty

Really liked this. Better than Hurt Locker imo, but that's probably attributed to the fact it follows a well documented part of history, and an extremely important one at that.

Re: Django Unchained

Thought this was sub-par for Tarantino. Where Inglorious Basterds made me think he was moving away from his 'film school student' days, he's back off the wagon with Django. Some of the music choices...

Re: The Hobbit

I was quite surprised by how much I liked this. The 48fps does take a bit of getting used to, but after 30mins or so I forgot about it and some of the shots were truly spectacular. Some of the best...

Re: The Hobbit

I should have had my head examined trying to argue with you, really. You'd argue black was white.

... or black & white was color.

Re: The Hobbit

How is 48fps a 'physical experience'? Would color come under that too? How about any visual and audible advancements since the first black and white televisions were released for consumer use?

Re: Oblivion (Tom Cruise Trailer)

Looks like a remake of the remake of Total Recall, set in the opening of Prometheus. Basically, I'm saying I think it looks awful. No thanks.

Re: Any non-US writers here?

UK here too. Hey Road Warrior, I'm going down the novel route myself at the moment; been adapting one of my older scripts. How are you finding the transition? Or were you originally a novel writer?

Re: 50 emails to MANAGERS without success

Pfft, amateur... I sent out 400 on my last one and got 1 read request :) I tell myself that the emails were old or dead, but that's just so I can sleep at night.

Re: Bond 23: Skyfall

Saw is last night. Vast improvement on QoS, but Casino Royale edges it in my opinion. It's a beautifully shot film and some great acting (for a Bond movie), but I think the plot is a bit thin/drawn...

Re: Black List founder Franklin Leonard answers your questions about the Black List

Mine went up 3 days ago and I got 8 impressions within the first hour, which was probably due to the fact it was listed on the front page. No downloads. That number hasn't changed 3 days later, which...
