Re: Preventing unwanted changes in rewrites

Ah, I see. I can safely say that as far is TV is concerned a writer can generally (if they choose) use a version that was rewritten based on those notes when trying to resell the project. Iíve seen...

Re: Preventing unwanted changes in rewrites

I canít speak to features but in TV thatís not the rule. People constantly use samples that were previously under option and presumably tweaked based on producer or exec notes.

Re: Mini series packaging question

As someone who has worked in writer's rooms and just recently started a role in development, my advice is to ditch the "film noir in three acts" pitch. The film noir element is fine. If anything I'd...

Re: foreign manager

I'll refrain from directly giving advice because I think you're a little further along in your career than me. Plus, I'm currently having awful anxiety about staying with or leaving my own manager,...

Re: Wayfarer's Six Feet Apart Experiment

Hey Catcon, just throwing this out there, but whatís the down side to entering for you? Best case scenario you win and potentially get a produced credit to your name, a real relationship with this...

Re: Effect of the Coronavirus

Not sure there's a hard rule for this. I'd say, taking pacing into consideration, just do what feels right for the story. If it really doesn't work, someone will let you know early on.

Rule of thumb is still anything over 60 pages.

Re: Selling spec vs. selling pitch

I also think if they are paying you to write it, you should take the offer and write it. Plus it's a good opportunity to further build a relationship with these buyers.

I guess what confuses me...

Re: Thought on scripts being stolen and used?

Ha, I was initially livid. One of the toughest things about being a writerís assistant is that everyone knows you write and want to be a working writer. And of course, youíre spending all day in a...

Re: Thought on scripts being stolen and used?

Story time. A couple of years ago I was working as the writer's room assistant on a basic cable series. It was one of the best rooms I've had of the pleasure of working in. The writers were all...

Re: Brandon Blake, www.filmtvlaw.com

Iíll be honest, it sounds like youíre less interested in this guy as a lawyer and more that he claims he can get projects made. Do you actually need a lawyer at this point in the process? Really...

Re: Brandon Blake, www.filmtvlaw.com

What makes me nervous is the part on their website where they say ďweíll also package your product and submit it to studios for youĒ. Yes, entertainment attorneys can and do submit material but...

Re: LA Area Code...

I agree with the others that once you're in LA, your area code won't matter. I'm a native but most of my close friends here are east coast transplants and their MA, NY, and CT area codes haven't...

Re: Collaboration Agreement - Question!

My educated guess would be yes, if you're billing yourself as a team then you'd most likely get the same credit consideration. But to be fair, I've only worked in rooms where the writing teams were...

Re: If you have a manager and attorney, do you absolutely need an agent?

I donít know enough about your story so I canít really speak for or against it, but I will say that (in my opinion) the best action movies always come down to character. Die Hard, The Matrix, Fast...

Thanks for sharing your experience Mintclub. I think you make some really good points - most important being that you never know what piece of writing someone will really respond to.

I think the...

Re: Different managers for different projects?

I can't think of a single manager who'd go for that arrangement. If a rep wants you in their stable - they'll want all of you. They need to make money off of all your projects, otherwise it isn't...

Re: Imagine Artist Management

Bumping this out of curiosity. Now that a little time has passed, any word yet on Imagine's management branch? Anyone here have the chance to interact with any of the managers there?
