Another use for Jstar AsciiDoc

Since I like Jstar and the fountain markup language so much, I jumped to try out AsciiDoc and its compiler/parser, AsciiDoctor. Originally I wanted to use it to make ePub books and I've had some...

Re: How to show the audience POV?

I used to argue violently against using "we see" because I read a book or two and knew everything. And then a professional screenwriter on the misc.writing.screenplays newsgroup explained to me when...

Re: How to show the audience POV?

To me, using "the view" is awkward and "passes" (instead of "passing") implies a one time event rather than continuation. The original is smoother.

Re: How to show the audience POV?

I see nothing wrong with it. One slightly different version:

"Rising up the face of a cliff, we pass cave openings lit by a faint and flickering glow within..."

You've used an "ing" verb, too. You...

INT. BEDROOM MORNING

LESTER GROG sleeps. Dark drapes dim the room, except for one
bright beam of light shining through a crack and settling on
the far wall. In the distance, the muted...

Digipitch Screenwriter?

I see that the announced "Digipitch Screenwriter" is KIT Scenarist with a different name. Kind of odd to see that.

Re: Seeking screenwriters to beta-test

I'm guessing the Linux beta has either been pulled or is not yet ready?

Re: The Opening - Problem vs. Opportunity

Usually there won't be as much drama in an opportunity as there will be in problem (as in a "life changing" problem).

Re: Claimed Hollywood writer's script formatting notes (are they wrong??)

Valid criticism is one thing but poor advice is worse than no advice even if it's given away for free. In this case, the analyzer is offering advice for a fee when he doesn't have a clue what he's...

Re: Fade In Pro -- tips, feedback, requested features

I just have the trial version of Fade In, but I can't find any way to do it. I checked to see if KIT Scenarist will do it and it appears that it will. (It puts the notes on the right panel if you...

Re: Claimed Hollywood writer's script formatting notes (are they wrong??)

I can't speak for Jeff Lowell, but here's part of what the "analyzer" wrote that immediately told me that he was full of crap (and what's written below has nothing to do with Goldman) ... (I left in...

Re: Claimed Hollywood writer's script formatting notes (are they wrong??)

It's not a matter of being able to "take advice," it's a matter of whether that advice sucks or not. This particular advice and analysis sucks, it's total crap. It shows that the analyzer has never...

That's how observant I'm not ... I didn't even realize there was a book. Thanks for pointing it out.

Re: Claimed Hollywood writer's script formatting notes (are they wrong??)

I'm not a professional, but these "rules" look like pure crap to me.

Screenplay Formatting Guide

I saw this in the announcements a while back, but kind of figured, "this is all taken care of by the formatting software now." But then I realized that some of these questions about formatting are...

Re: ClipCache Pro

That seems to be a common complaint with CopyQ. Lots of advanced features, poor documentation. I admit that I haven't done anything but scratched its surface.

I probably wouldn't waste a lot of time...

Re: Advice on character reaction description

If my advice conflicts with Jeff Lowell's advice just refer to my signature and go with someone who actually sells scripts. (Hint, that's not me.)

Re: ClipCache Pro

Hey, thanks ComicBent. I always like these tips. Of course, being a non-Windows user I can't use ClipCache Pro, but it set me looking for an alternative and I've found an interesting (multi-platform)...

Re: Advice on character reaction description

I use "beat" (actually "pause") a lot, but I'm not a professional writer and I have no prospects of becoming one. So I write the way I like to write and don't worry about it. At some point it's going...

Re: Advice on character reaction description

I tend to overwrite so take what I write with a grain of salt, but this seems a little too much like telling rather than showing -- and it comes across as understated. I'm guessing this is a very...

Re: How important is voice in screenwriting?

The question I answered "no" to was ... In a screenplay, is the voice of the writer, as the OP has described voice, as important as the story?

It doesn't matter how entertaining the writing is, or...

Re: Summer Camp

Anything that doesn't require my attempting to attain some form of writing quality is something I'm keen to look into.

If something can't be arranged I might have to bypass this contest altogether...

What?! Well, that's no good. Nobody is going to vote for my crap. Are you sure there's no way around this voting thing?
