Re: Vice

Good to hear it rang true for you, Joan. With that and TigerFang's comments, it's definitely on my must see list.

Re: Vice

Politics aside, this does look like a film to see based on all the elements of filmmaking including acting, directing, and screenwriting.

But I wonder how much of it is factual and how much is...

Re: Voice-Over

Go for it. It's your story and you must choose how to tell it. Being careful of the details doesn't mean you can't be creative.

Re: Voice-Over

Really?

What I mean is the voice of someone who is not in the story. Peter Falk tells the story of Princess Bride. He' telling or reading the story to his grandchild.

The narrator in Little...

Re: Voice-Over

The scene itself makes sense, but how could Salieri narrate it if he wasn't there to see and hear what happened between Mozart and his wife?

Are you sure Salieri narrated that scene? I didn't...

Re: Voice-Over

It doesn't make sense that Salieri could narrate a scene that he wasn't in, unless he somehow knew what occurred in the scene.

If Salieri did narrate a scene he wasn't in between Amadeus and...

Re: How important is voice in screenwriting?

Joan, Centos, and Jeff, thanks for your answers.

I don't mean to be obnoxious, but I wonder if Jeff, or anyone, could elaborate on why voice is as important as story if your goal is to be hired as...

Re: How important is voice in screenwriting?

That leads to another question, which I don't think has been answered.

In a screenplay, is the voice of the writer, as the OP has described voice, as important as the story?

Re: How important is writing to screenwriting?

Subsequent parties, like directors, actors, set designers, etc. are not merely executives; they are givers of life.

Without them even the best screemplays would be nothing more than a barely read...

Re: How important is writing to screenwriting?

Methinks you are overrating the importance of writing to moviemaking.

Re: Is it acceptable...

Yes, maybe too many unnecessary details. Rather than describing all the physical details, try comparing the loacation to places that are familiar and create similar feeling.

Re: Is revenge only for anti-heroes?

An anti-hero is a protagonist who lacks heroic qualities. A revenge seeker can be a heroic protagonist or an anti-hero depending on the story. A revenge seeker is not an anti-hero by default.

For...

Quickly browsed through the link to Fundamentals of Good Writing, including the Table of Contents and Index. Didn't notice any mention of Writer's Voice or Voice in the pages.

I wonder why. Is...

Re: How important is voice in screenwriting?

Say it ain't so, Jeff.

If nobody gives two shits about the writing in the action/description, in other words the narrative, why are we even concerned with this thing called writers voice?

Re: How important is voice in screenwriting?

Re: Would you keep reading this?

I kinda liked it, but can see how that voice could become tiring or overpower the story.

Some say it reads/feels like music while others say it reads/feels like nails on a chalk board.

Hey, Centos. Now I understand what you meant.

To expand on what you wrote, not only is voice a natural part of writing, we each have a natural voice that can be developed. We develop our voice...
