Re: Graphic novel

For every person thinking this, there's someone thinking "Nobody will buy my book, I'll write it as a screenplay and then people will want to buy the book."

Sure, it's possible, but unless you're...

Re: Pitching Series Over Phone Tips?

Yeah, but to get that opportunity you're going to have to have good material they can read and pitch it through contests or queries or know someone who can pass it on.

If somebody called my personal...

Re: Pitching Series Over Phone Tips?

You're cold calling a producer you've never met to pitch a series on their personal phone line that you don't have any business having?

Yeah, don't do that.

Re: Black List Option - Slayer

Doubt it was a paid option, or if it was for much if so, but still great news.

Sounds like a cool script. I remember loving the art that the BL produced for it.

Re: Follow Up

A week is not a long time, it may seem like it to you but they have other stuff going on. Plus Sundance takes precedence.

Patience is hard but necessary.

Re: M.Landis: The blacklist has jumped the shark

I'm not sure why he said it, but I'm guessing it's because of the Lax Mandis project and the proliferation of "look at me" scripts that have no chance of actually getting made. Writers are trying to...

Re: Drama Structure

The way I look at it, the more likely (of two potentially very unlikely) outcomes is that your script will not be purchased at all but will be used as a writing sample.

To that end, I write act...

Re: TV Bidding War?

I think it's case by case but if you're locked into an if/come deal with a prodco then they'll be the ones to handle negotiations and (not an expert here) but part of what will make THEIR negotiation...

Re: 2017 Launch Pad Pilot Competition

Launch Pad is one of the better-connected/most visible competitions. The judges are all working industry professionals and seem to have a good track record. I got a free submission from placing in a...

Re: TV Bidding War?

It's no different. You want better terms/pay. Better terms if the show is ordered to series, better back-end, better title (some creators are only co-EP, while if you have a bidding war you could...

Re: Passengers

Was Fishburne's character in the Spaihts script? I don't recall that.

Good review, and funny, and highlights a lot of the reasons I didn't want to see this movie.

Re: Writing on Spec Question

Because development funds are more-or-less extinct and if you don't write it, there's no shortage of talented, trying-to-break-in writers who will.

That's the mentality anyway. I get that it's not...

Re: Primary Wave?

Looks like a lot of guys from Evolution. They repped some decent enough writers, but AFAIK really never had any success breaking new talent. I know it's not the be-all end-all, but you never see...

Re: Is Streaming TV a New Genre?

Thanks for this. IMO the execs at streaming services seem to want the same stuff Cable Nets want. Serialized drama or half-hour quirky comedy/dramedy.

Re: Managers for TV?

Almost all managers have a strong TV presence? So almost all managers are getting clients staffed and selling original material consistently? Wow must be a good time to be a manager.
