Re: Mr. Robot

I watched the first two seasons in a row. Great series. It might seem too slow if you follow it week by week.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

You just praised Ocean's Eleven, which then was pointed out for being unrealistic, and now you attack others for being right. Huh?

Just so that you know, there are all-women heist teams in the real...

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Yet the Ocean's Eleven series has exceptionally great looking men in great-looking tailor-made clothes, doing their heists.

Re: "Scriptshadow" contest winner

Maybe not, but the premise of the script is very good. It would have gotten reads, based on that premise.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Frankly, I don't buy any of this.

I'm somewhat an expert on issue, having done 2 seasons of a martial arts series, which visited over 20 major schools worldwide. Traditional martial arts, MMA,...

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

I think it would be good for the new films to distinguish them more. The main series is all-family fun, as it should be. But the other movies could be more different.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Monsters and Godzilla were both kinda moody in their tone. It's a little bit sad if they are making this less dark.

The Marvel syndrome

By now, Marvel is one of the biggest players in the movie industry.

The quality of their films is rather consistent. Iron Man 1-3. Avengers 1-2. Captain America 1-3. Thor 1-2. Ant-man (Soon to have...

Deadpool

What, no thread for this yet? It's a very writer-driven film. Gotta love those opening credits.

But at the same time, Deadpool kind of left me indifferent. It tries REALLY hard to make you laugh,...

Captain America: Civil war

This is a good movie.

But at the same time, it increasingly feels to me that these Marvel movies are being made by a (competent) committee. They know how to make a solid film, but there is little...

Re: Max Landis article on Deadline

There is wealth of information about Max Landis online.

I know how many scripts he has written. I know how many he has sold. I know how many were turned into movies. I know how difficult this is,...

Re: Max Landis article on Deadline

I'm not a fan of Max Landis. I've seen only one of his movies. But I know who he is, and what he does, and how he does it. Quantifiable facts.

Your writing is getting increasingly irrational.

Re: Max Landis article on Deadline

When it comes to Max, I would put it this way:

1. Talent.
2. Hard work ethic.
3. Good in the room (Nobody seems to dispute this).
4. Great networking skills.
5. An out-going, extrovert...

Re: Max Landis article on Deadline

I can think of *hundreds* of Hollywood players who are bigger and more influential than John Landis is. Yet their kids aren't making any waves.

As hard as it is to admit, talent and work ethic do...

Re: The Nice Guys

I haven't seen this film, but the kid in IM3 was good.

To me it sounds like it's just a pet peeve of yours. Some people dislike too smart and capable kids in movies. Some dislike women who can kick...

Re: Max Landis article on Deadline

It's been 25 years since John Landis was relevant. There are a huge number of bigger names who are still relevant, yet their kids are not successful.

That's because you actually need talent to...

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens -contains spoilers

As for Rey's capabilities, many seem to have problems with them.

I didn't. I find her quite lovable, and the actress is excellent. She just happens to have a classic Arc Of Awesome. Like many of the...

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens -contains spoilers

I think BB8 has a genius design. And the fact that it's a practical effect makes it even more impressive.

The main weapon carved deep into planet was an impressive sight, and conceptually new, I...

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens -contains spoilers

Finally watched this. I enjoyed it a great deal.

Sure, it borrows a lot of elements from the older SW movies, but has enough new things to make up for it.

Casting was excellent, and characters...

Re: Ron Howard's Drought

It's always easier when you're an outsider, and you actually can see clips of the finished film.

When you're part of the process, you get automatically blinded by what you're doing. Happens to...

Re: Ron Howard's Drought

It's dependent on what kind of a movie you are making.

With sweeping adventure films we want varied, lush locations. With a horror movie we often want a single, isolate location.

Story determines...

Re: #OscarsSoWhite

The point is that we are not powerless. We can fight this if we want to.

Django and Hateful Eight are two recent examples where the lead had to be black. Both from the same writer. He's fighting the...

Re: #OscarsSoWhite

Sorry if someone already asked this, but:

How many scripts have you written, where the lead character, or a major supporting character NEEDS to be played by a black person. Or a Hispanic, or a...

Re: Sicario

Good film, excellent directing and acting. Set-pieces were really well done.

I also think the change of protag is problematic. You have to adjust emotionally to a new hero, who has been pretty...

Re: The Revenant

Visually it's a marvel, as expected. And all the actors are really good.

After the highly intense first 30 minutes the film becomes mostly a survival tale, and not so exciting for me. It has a weird...
