Re: How to deal with this situation formatting wise?

If most of the other execs don't have lines, you can dispose of them with a group description - A gaggle of JUNIOR EXECS files into the room.

Then single out any who are important to the scene, but...

Re: Writing character in Action

A great example of reading "behind the note (question)" to diagnose the real problem. I didn't even consider that angle.

Re: Character catches a cold

Personally, if it's important for us to know the character still has a cold for some reason, I'd mention it in the action every few pages. "Josh blows his nose." But that would be terribly boring, so...

Re: Writing character in Action

Remember, readers are trying to keep a half-dozen or more characters straight. Switching references won't make that any easier.

Also, while it seems boring and repetitive to us, as the writer, to...

Re: Show forum text on screen

Works for me. There's no 'correct' style answer here, as far as I know - just whatever makes it clear to the reader with the least explanation.

I passed your question on to a friend who works for a sheriff's department - here's his reply:

Re: Writing for genre/B-movies - Techniques & Tips?

Awesome thread! Before I took an extended break from screenwriting due to burnout, I had mostly been writing big-budget tentpole specs, but as someone still breaking in, scripts along these lines...

Re: Naming Characters

I usually can't start writing in earnest until I get the names right. (Though they still sometimes change between drafts as I hone the characters). I use baby name books, lists of top names by year,...

Re: Sacrifice as a need???

Wreck-It Ralph has one of the best demonstrations of want vs. need I've ever seen. Ralph wants a medal for heroism, but he needs to discover what being a hero really means. (It also has a great All...

Re: When to insert Fun & Games - Montages in RomCom?

I frequently find that if I'm blocked on a scene, it's because it's a bad scene and I shouldn't be writing it anyway.

Re: Inspiration vs. focus

When I put a project aside for awhile and come back to it, I often find the previously insoluble problems I'd been wrestling with have really simple solutions.

Re: Why do managers exist?

You're probably right, but I'll let it roll for a bit to see if any new points can be made - discussions on managers are of great interest to many of our posters. I'd just like to stay on target;...

Re: Why do managers exist?

A bit late to this one. Please don't argue about arguing, or who is arguing the wrongerest, or whatever. Argue (if you must) about managers. Thanks.

Let's please not drag fights from other threads into new, wholly unrelated ones, okay? Thank you.

If we're down to arguing about arguing, I'm going to call it a day on this one.

Re: Characters facial expressions

This is a great tip, by the way. Print out a script (or call it up on your laptop or pad) and read it while watching the film. It's kind of amazing the first time you try it - most of those facial...

Re: Characters facial expressions

My personal preference is to try to cut facial expressions back to a handful across the script - points where their absence might confuse the reader. (At least by the final draft.) I'd rather try to...

Re: Done Deal Managers

I think we can take this angle of the conversation to PMs or drop it, please. Everyone's had their say, more than once, and folks are either convinced or not convinced. Also, tone arguments are the...

Re: True Detectives on HBO

If you look at it as an eight-hour screenplay, episode six would be the traditional 'lowest point' of the story. Their earlier triumph turns out to be a false victory, Marty's wife leaves him, the...

Re: What are the best screenplay coverage services?

Definitely The Screenplay Mechanic. Also Scott the Reader (http://sixtybucknotes.blogspot.com/) - 3-5 pages of notes (no synopsis or scoring grids) for $60.
