Re: Reps that don't dig your work

Interesting. It doesn't make you more attractive to new reps, to be coming from somewhere else? (Or vice versa)

Re: Reps that don't dig your work

Congrats Mrjonesprods! This is amazing.
Did you fire the manager before lining up the new one? I'm wondering if it's better to be manager/agent-less for a period while looking or have the new one...

Re: Thoughts on the Blacklist

Also curious about one of the prior posters' questions: does the time of year the script was sent out make a difference? Does seem like more recent scripts would have an advantage.

Re: Thoughts on the Blacklist

Even the reps don't know in advance? It's hard to believe such a big secret could be kept. I thought I read on here once that people who made it got a heads up from their reps.

Re: Specs

This is my understanding: Producers often have deals to work with certain studios. The studios are the territories. When a spec goes out wide, the agent/manager sends it to lots of producers, then...

Re: What's The Point Of It All?

This is a beautiful thread. Rich, I hope you feel supported and not alone. There is so little validation in this business and so much rejection. Hopefully it's a comfort to know that many others feel...

Re: Going out wide?

Do most execs have an assistant read/do coverage, or read personally (assuming the script comes from someone with whom they have a relationship)? Thanks to all for posting. This is very helpful info.

Re: Going out wide?

Thanks everybody. Very interesting. I was under the impression it all happened within a week. So much mythology out there. Do they usually go out on a Monday (although I see Bob's went out on...

Re: If female lead movies make more money, why don't we see more of them?

I don't have an answer, but thanks to LauriD for posting. This kind of analysis and its publication will hopefully contribute to changing this over the long-term.

Re: Going out wide?

Thanks, Eric. Yeah, that's what I was asking. I read that too. But still it seems specs are going out and selling. Given that it's an email blast or whatever I wonder how fast it all happens.

Going out wide?

What is this process like from the writer's perspective? How fast do things happen? Is it just sitting around waiting by the phone or is it helpful to watch tracking boards? Just wondering what the...

Re: "Lengthy negotiations?"

A follow up: when I read about projects selling in the trades, is that in advance of the papering of the deal? I assumed nothing could be announced until it's all closed, but these pilot sales, etc....

"Lengthy negotiations?"

How long should it take for a deal to close? Got an offer from a network which my lawyer countered and haven't heard back. All told it's been about a month. I'm getting nervous. I keep reading about...

Press releases?

How do places like deadline get the info on what network has bought which show (e.g. http://deadline.com/2014/10/eva-longoria-supernatural-anthology-series-hispanic-folklore-nbc-849228/)? Does the...

Re: LA meetings: rental car or Uber?

I guess I'm the lone voice in favor of uber. I find driving (esp in LA) stressful, and the last thing you need when pitching/meetings is added stress. I've done it both ways and much prefer uber-ing....

Re: Paying WGA dues

It sucks, but yes. And as far as I can tell the payments to agent and manager are not deductible as biz expenses.

Re: Network meeting

Also a tricky thing is really having and expressing a vision -- they say "did you see x as the lead?" You're tempted to say "who do you want to be the lead?" because really, you'll do what they want,...

Re: The TV treatment and the agent

Just curious -- how did you identify this agent? I've never heard of an agent having a contract with a network for tv ideas. Does anyone know if this is typical? For what it's worth I agree on...

Re: Going wide with TV pilots

Yes, very helpful unequal. Thank you. And LRic, I don't see any harm in asking him about sending it to them for generals. If he says no and has a reason, you'll have a better understanding of the...
