Re: Time passing when everything is ok

Okay, know this is a few weeks old but my thought:

Phones boss, asks for loan.
Boss says no problem, just has to say hi to a couple of people at the party he's at and he'll be home right...

Re: Westworld

I know what you mean, and the economics occurred to me as well, but they have talked about this later in the show. Hosts talk to each other because they are rehearsing and learning, just as baby...

Mr. Right

Stars Sam Rockwell, Anna Kendrick and Tim Roth. It's a romcom where Anna's character meets Sam's reformed hitman who's on the run from Roth's bad guy. Funny, but lots of dead bodies.

It was released...

Re: Captain America: Civil war

My problem with BvS is the whole plot depended on a misunderstanding between Batman and Superman, which should and could have been resolved had they just talked for a few minutes, and essentially...

The Millennium Diamond heist. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOIbDPGzi-U)

One of the world biggest diamonds on display in the London Millennium Dome, the attempted theft foiled by months of police...

Re: Location name when character is lying

Should have made clear that the audience is in on the deception, so it wouldn't be giving away a plat twist. When I tried to think of examples all that came to mind were plot twists, like the real...

Location name when character is lying

I have a character (SUSAN) who is pretending a house is hers, while the actual owner (DORIS) is staying in Susan's home. Susan is dating someone and pretending it's her home.

So do I use INT SUSAN's...

Re: How to show a Tweet?

Bold sounds like a good idea.

Maybe I'll call mine Squarker? Like a tweet, but louder....

How to show a Tweet?

I have a character who is following someone on Twitter, using the Twitter app on their PC. They notice and read a Tweet.
How would I put the Tweet in a script? In the action?

Or treat it like...

Re: How to make multiple characters not just be names in short period of time.

Watch the first fifteen minutes of Serenity. Based on a TV show with a large cast that hardly anyone watched writer/director Joss Whedon had to introduce all of them to an audience who had never seen...

Re: I still own the rights, right?

Being "inspired by" or "linked creativity" is enough to enforce the contract. It was not enough to claim plagiarism. In Fatal Subtraction discussing the decision the judge makes clear it is not about...

Re: I still own the rights, right?

The movie was quite different from Buchwald's outline, and he and his lawyer were disappointed in the verdict, such that they actually considered appealing. The verdict was that just the vague idea...

Re: I still own the rights, right?

He won the breach of contract case. He lost the plagiarism argument. That's why he got far less than he was asking for, and the law firm only got back 40% of their costs.
Without that contract he'd...

Re: Writer of "Gravity" says her lawsuit affects all writers?

Buchwald lost the plagiarism suit. He won on breach of contract IIRC.

Re: Writer of "Gravity" says her lawsuit affects all writers?

I'd say yes, because she was working under contract. A contract that said she would get Based On credit and some points. The studio can't claim ownership under a contract without also fulfilling...

Re: I still own the rights, right?

I'd agree with you here. If something like that was considered as "Based on" and needed the buy the rights then I doubt there has been any movie made that is not ripping someone off. Unless you know...

Re: Thanks for the idea...you're no longer needed

There is a similarity with the Art Buchwald Coming To America case. He lost the plagiarism suit but won the breach of contract case, because they had agreed a deal and had established a relationship....

Re: Movies that passed the Bechdel test made more money

I don't view this test as being an absolute but something to make one think about the characters in the film. If you had a movie set in a WWII submarine or aircraft carrier then there would be no...

Re: Movies that passed the Bechdel test made more money

My interpretation of the test is that talking "about a man" means "talking about a man one/both of them are dating/want to date". The significance being that the female characters only exist to...

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

I don't think this is a spoiler, but Scarlett was born in 84. Black Widow could be in her sixties. She was treated with the Russian version of the super serum which, alongside enhanced strength and...

I'd go with the first fifteen minutes of Serenity. Got everyone who hadn't seen the TV series up to speed, a huge amount of information, without boring everyone who had seen the TV series. All the...

Re: Military Processes and Procedures

Just to be really picky, a Marine would never be called a soldier. Soldier is army and there is a huge rivalry between them. If anyone in your script calls him a soldier and gets away with it...

Re: Amateurs scripts

If I was a studio I'd think "Why bother?". If I have a writer who can take a dire script and fix it to make it great, or knew how to do it myself, then why would I need that original dire script?...
