Re: 2013 HeartWalk:Get Read by Benderspink & Fight Heart Disease & Stroke

Joe, I donated $50 last year to get the first 50 pages read but I also heard nothing back.

Not a pressing issue but I thought you mentioned somewhere that we'd be informed even if it was a pass....

Re: BlueCat Quarter finals on Feb 1

Yup. My sci fi didn't progress but an earlier draft of the same script reached the semi finals in Page last year.

Totally subjective and dependent on the mood of the reader. You win, some you lose...

Re: Entering contest help

The Nicholls Fellowship is the cream of all screenwriting competitions. Their entry period starts some time in January and finishes in May.

PAGE is another good one.

I like Blue Cat as you get...

Re: The best response to "What else you got?"

I echo the sentiments above.

But you should also ensure your scripts are not "just okay" before querying managers.

Make them the best they can be (believe me, I've learned this the hard way).

Re: Bluecat Written Analysis

I submitted in September and got my analyses back in a couple of weeks.
I re-submitted just before the November final deadline and received my feedback two weeks later on November 30th.

Perhaps I...

Re: Bluecat Written Analysis

I can see where you're coming from, but I'd just like to point out that the scriptwriter who wrote the script you downloaded and thought was "horrible" probably thought it was great. Just like you...

Re: Bleeding the writer

What I still find mind-boggling in this day and age is how "creative" jobs are seen as lesser jobs than say plumbing, carpentry or being a lawyer.

You wouldn't ask a plumber to install a new...

Re: Bluecat Written Analysis

First time entrant with BlueCat this year and I can't really fault their system.

There are no other reputable contests (at least that I know of) that offer feedback as part of their entry...

Re: how do I write camera motion?

Well, unless you're directing this yourself, I would advise you to omit specific camera directions.

If this is a spec script, try to keep these to an absolute minimum.

I don't really see what the...

Re: Contests or Black List?

I'm with you on this JoJo. Three months for me is tops, if I get a good score. If I get a crappy score, then I'll probably just see out the month and pull the script.

I almost posted a script a...

Re: Contests or Black List?

This is the bit I'm struggling with. It's super expensive. I wouldn't mind $25 for a year but monthly is a bit steep.

Of course, people might argue that if you're serious about your career, then...

Re: Rewrite Hell

I echo all of the above.
But I have one more suggestion.
Have you considered getting someone to read it for you so they can point out the plot holes/weaknesses/bits they like?

I had a similar...

Re: Does this matter?

This is one of my particular bug-bears. It's great when you're trying to cut a script and bing! half a page disappears when you delete one word. But it can make your script go a little weird.

For...

Re: Going back to the beginning.

It can be a real kick in the pants when you start to doubt your own ability.
You have to stay true to your own style.

I'm a proponent of a happy medium of the two extremes you describe. But...

Re: 50 emails to MANAGERS without success

Wow. A day is nothing. You can expect to wait around a month.

Give it time. Be patient. And keep writing in the meantime. :)

Hi Sean,

Greetings from a fellow Irish person!

I've been at this for a similar amount of time and only now am I starting to see results.

I've used the old-fashioned approach of querying (I...

Hi Django and welcome to Done Deal Pro.
