Re: Knives Out

Solid movie. Great cast, fun and enjoyable. The killer was way too obvious (knew it 20 minutes in). Also, don't really get people saying Ana de Armas was great. She was easily the worst part of...

Re: New York Is Better Than LA

Yes, really. It's just a fact. New York has the highest population density in the country (S.F. is second). Its population density is 3 times higher than L.A. (26K people per sq. mile to 8K). Of...

Re: New York Is Better Than LA

Strongly disagree. New York is even more crowded than L.A. with more people and less space.

Re: Doing well in too many contests is a red flag for reps?

As someone who was briefly (thank God it was so brief) with JW, I can tell you he is a condescending prick. There's no magical formula. Some people break-in on their first script, some their 40th. ...

Re: Entertainment Lawyer Recommendations

Yeah, you should never, ever do a free option. Free shopping agreements are fine. I'm a professional writer and I still do shopping agreements. Often times they are in fact better than even low...

Re: Entertainment Lawyer Recommendations

If it's a free option, there is no reputable Ent. Attorney who will handle it for 5%. You'll have to pay them a fee, which will most likely not be worth it. PM me the name of the company if you'd...

Re: How to identify managers within agency who could be a fit

No, film moves incredibly slowly as well.

That's not entirely true. Verve is producing/financing client work through Verve Ventures. ...

Re: Sidejobs for a freelance writer

Before I could afford to write full-time, I used to do a bit of freelance copywriting for video games (through ad agencies). Even worked at one for two months. Great perks. Free lunch, stocked...

Re: Avengers End Game

It was okay. INFINITY WAR was the only Avengers movie I liked because it was actually dark, had stakes, the characters weren't impervious, and Thanos is a great, layered villain. ENDGAME was...

Re: If your manager doesn't like a particular script...

I candidly told them I'm going to push material I believe in and if that's an issue, we should part ways. We parted ways about a month later.

Re: Producer backing movie

Get an attorney. No one here can properly answer your question without looking at the contract/knowing all the numbers, variables, etc.

Re: Island Park Entertainment?

I've chatted with him via e-mail. Seems like a nice guy and a go-getter. Not sure he has enough clout at the moment, but that can change with the right hustle. Could be good for newer writers.

Re: If your manager doesn't like a particular script...

Managers tend to be a touchy bunch. I've brought deals to my manager (despite them doing nothing), and instead of being happy, they're pissy that I went around them. On material they refused to do...

Is the attached director repped? Have you discussed having his reps try and do something with it?

Re: If your manager doesn't like a particular script...

Absolutely. And yes, your manager might get pissed. If they do? **** em'. I've dropped managers who have issues with me sending out my own work. If they aren't going to do their job, I will. ...

Re: Pilot vs Novel and the Author's Rights

Yes true. And actually, I'm broken in (thanks for your concern, but I have two 20M films shooting next Spring), and thus regularly have meetings where this is the company mandate. Of course it was...

Re: Pilot vs Novel and the Author's Rights

TV is actually incredibly biased against men right now, not women. Many shows aren't even staffing white males. There's never been a better time to work in TV for a woman...you have a huge leg up.
