Re: Austin Second Round Notes

Haven't received mine yet, either ... got the "accidental" email with first/second round notes, but not yet the finalist email that's supposed to show scoring from the later rounds.

Re: Best SciFi Screenplay at Austin 2009. Worth a look.

As co-writer of the second or third best science fiction screenplay at Austin, let me just add that when Skot was kind enough to let me hold his trophy after the awards ceremony, I wanted to run away...

Re: Which Are the Best Script Competitions (for a sci-fi script)?

We took a silver medal (actually a cardboard plaque) in the science fiction category last year for the PAGE International contest (www.internationalscreenwritingawards.com). I'd recommend taking a...

Re: Best line(s) of dialogue used in a film...

I'm just back from seeing Idiocracy. I'm paraphrasing here because I don't remember it exactly, and the line might not sound like much out of context if you don't know anything about the movie -- and...

Re: O, Austin, Where Art Thou?

I'm not dissing Austin either. I like Austin. I'd be more than happy if I made the finals. But a second round finish isn't enough to get me on a plane, especially when for only 75 cents I could catch...

Re: Unsupportive boyfriend (he's a former screenwriter) - help!

Uh oh ... they're onto us.

Still, separate our good advice from our bad intentions and DTMFA.

Re: O, Austin, Where Art Thou?

Yeah, that's the impression I got. The phone call was a sales pitch embellished by flattery. And while I'm highly susceptible to flattery, it'll take more than that to get me to Texas.

Re: Worst line used in a film?

Wow, hadn't seen that Ebert link. That's great.

I loved the Mamet line. I thought it was brilliant and hilarious and I wished I had written it.

But of course I could never explain why.

Re: Scariest Movie You've Ever Seen...

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Seriously. I haven't seen it since I was a kid, but the memory of that guy with the net trying to catch the children still freaks me out.

Re: Nicholl Semi Finalist Letters Go Out TODAY!!!

I suspect the numbers dropped this year because of the way they reworked the deadline ... at least that's why I didn't enter this time. I just screwed up and missed it.

Hmm ... the math to me says...

Re: For those flying to AFF from LA

If you don't mind the extra travel time, Amtrak is $218 round-trip from Union Station (that's with a AAA discount).

Re: Can anyone gimme some crazy coffee types?

And when ordering coffee in a screenplay, never forget this exchange from Steve Martin's L.A. Story:

Guy with neck-support: I'll have a decaf coffee.
Trudi: I'll have a decaf espresso.
Movie...

Dui

What would be the range of possible sentences be for a first-offense DUI/DWI resulting in a fatality? This would be in California, and ideally under laws from about ten years ago.

Thanks a bunch ...

Re: Inktip competition

There were 1,904 entries.

Of those, 498 have advanced to the quarter-finals.

Semi-finalists will be announced July 15. (Looks like last year they had 20-25 semi-finalists in each of nine categories.

Well, I know I entered ... so it must have seemed like a good idea at the time. I searched and couldn't find any bad news. But more than that, I don't know.
