Re: First 10 (or 1) page

Hmm... reminds me of American Idol try outs where some of the contestants really believe they can sing well.

Or and entertaining example like, Drax, in Guardians of the Galaxy, where he's standing...

Re: First 10 (or 1) page

I think that the objectivity can come in the form of a delayed acceptance. It's like the stages of death, right? Not nearly as bad, so maybe a poor comparison, but that's what comes to mind....

Re: Three Act Structure (Part 2)

Sc111 is not a mean girl.

I will vote to keep figment, like their style.

Bono didn't mean it, he was just kidding.

There is nothing flawed about the four-act structure. It breaks the vastness of...

Re: Scene Practice

Comments:

I would say start the scene with... "Tell me what's going on."

The banter is good for a bit, but that's all it is, banter.

It's basically the same beat over and over again, so it gets...

Re: Three Act Structure (Part 2)

I insinuated no such thing.:D

You said you didn't know why he didn't come here and post on YOUR structure thread. I simply provided you with the link to him clearly stating his reasons....

Re: Three Act Structure (Part 2)

I understood you the first time. I'm sorry it's a struggle for you. You're simply restating the same points over and over as if it's going to change my mind... it won't.

Re: Three Act Structure (Part 2)

Because I don't agree with YOU, there's a failure to communicate?

You can repeat your statements over and over again until you're blue in the face, it doesn't change my experience or my opinion....

Re: Three Act Structure (Part 2)

I agree. Structure is a basic tool. It's not complicated and it's not difficult. Even young children tell stories with good structure. I do believe that when you analyze your favorite movies it...

Re: Scriptapalooza Coverage Service

You made me smile, Crayon.

I don't trust anyone who doesn't tell me who their readers are, what their qualifications are, how many scripts they've covered, or doesn't provide a sample.

A while...

Re: Can I do anything with a high placement in a screenwriting competition?

Friday: I agree with you. Black List should be able to more consistently identify what a good story/script looks like. I think the problem might have to do with the fact that a reader that has one...

Re: Can I do anything with a high placement in a screenwriting competition?

Well, the one script that excelled on the Black List website was Susan Allain with Mr. Malcom's List. It was the first that received a lot of attention with a studio executive that loved the script,...

Re: Can I do anything with a high placement in a screenwriting competition?

Admittedly, it could be that it just hit me wrong. Texting, tweeting and posting online often can lead to misunderstandings with regards to tone and intent when there's no voice or facial expressions...

Re: Can I do anything with a high placement in a screenwriting competition?

You're entitled to your opinion, of course, and not to be argumentative, and I mean that honestly, but this statement is kind of offensive. "Crap out a draft?" Who does that? I mean, seriously?

I...

Re: Can I do anything with a high placement in a screenwriting competition?

What I've noticed about the Black List in the two years I was out of circulation is that they have become A LOT less transparent to writers. Take one look at the FAQs and there is very little in the...

Re: Legalities of submitting into competition

Yes, I read contracts in full. Most are a risk vs reward assessment and not too troublesome. Other more questionable contracts I would avoid.

I have worked with contracts in the past and know there...

Re: Lit Agent for Dope-Ass Teen Sci-Fi Novel?

Yes, I do understand your point, and I agree. I recall the previous thread as it was similar in tone. Misleading and outright lying is not something I would encourage and certainly not something I...

Re: Archetype vs stereotype

Agreed. There are no rules.

I've enjoyed many of the discussions that Michael Hague and Christopher Vogler have on structure, and the inner and the outer journey. They both admit that structure...
