Re: Contacted by CAA agent - novelist

If you have a good agent they will be able to advise you appropriately and ensure your interests are protected. A door knock from CAA is always something to feel good about but it could be just a...

Re: VO vs OS vs OC...

So long as you've made it simple and unambiguous, that's fine.

Re: Low budget films - location, location, location

The answer will always be "it depends" because ... well, because it depends. There's nothing wrong with having more exterior scenes, but it depends on how well you can access and control the...

Re: Expired Book Rights

This. No legit producer would go near it knowing the history, which you would be obliged to disclose. Definitely re-option.

Re: Low budget films - location, location, location

Very good point because low-budget production houses aren't shopping around for something that could possibly be turned into a low-budget project with a bit of work, they're looking for projects...

Re: A couple of slugs

Re: A couple of slugs

For the rear you could use REAR OF AMBULANCE or PATIENT CABIN or STRETCHER CABIN etc. The front would be DRIVER'S CAB.

INT. AMY’S BODY BAG – DAY suggests the camera/viewer is in the body bag. Maybe...

Re: Sound of a flamethrower

Having heard one, it's almost a roar. There are two ways to do it, one is to use a verb (e.g. roar) and the other is to use a phonetic description such as the ones you have. It really doesn't matter...

Re: Low budget films - location, location, location

#1 is more accurate. If someone likes the story/movie enough to want to make it but wants to squeeze it into a smaller budget, they'll find ways to make it a less expensive production.
With scenario...

Haha. It would sad if the extensive discussions on that subject had no benefit.

Re: ext - night; showing characters talking in window.

Yes, I'd agree something like this works just fine. Knowing that this might be my last ever post on these forums I was hoping to utter something more profound, but such is the world of spec...

Re: Character has same name

Just distinguish them as 'FRANK SNR' and 'FRANK JNR' for names and action. In dialogue just use 'Frank' because we'll know from the other elements which one is referred to.

Re: Business wants to fund pilot episode

Generally ...

If it's only for the pilot without any ongoing obligations you can probably do it.

This usually just becomes an issue when someone has picked up your series for broadcast....

Re: Equity Finders

You'd have more success just by reading film credits and forgetting the internet for this, but you are right that networking is one of the best ways to identify financiers. Film markets and festivals...

I'd follow your instincts and remember a sale in the hand is worth more than any unrealized possibility and wouldn't want to influence you one way or the other, but I will make an observation...

Re: Cutting pages from script

This. There is no point at all in trying to cheat the page length by changing the leading or using other tricks. You might get away with varying page length by one or two lines but that's it. Anyone...

Re: Questions for submitting to managers

Agree. Just as an aside, contrary to common belief, readers are mostly looking for things to like about your script because that's their ultimate objective, to find something compelling. But it's...

Re: What type of Gun for petty criminal?

Agreed. The only reasons you might need to specify the type of gun are as a technicality to make something else in the story plausible, or to say something about the personality or mentality of the...

From memory there was a well known movie that had a 185-page script, and I believe a 75-page script. I apologize for not being able to recall the titles or verify these.

Probably not good targets...

Re: do any of you take a break (several weeks) while writing your screenplay?

A casual approach rarely leads to much success in this game. Succeeding usually results from one, or a combination, of three things: passion, discipline, and obsession, with some talent thrown in for...
