Re: What Do Tv Writer's Reps Get?

The exception to the 10 percent is if your agent packaged the show. In that case you don't have to pay them anything after the series goes to air.

Re: Reps that don't dig your work

The only thing you want a rep to be attracted to is your writing.

Re: Writer/Producer Credit

I wouldn't say it's a deal killer... everything is negotiable. You can ask, they can say yes or no. It really comes down to how much they want the project and if you have other offers. It might be a...

Re: Reps that don't dig your work

I fired him before looking. I figured there was no point in hanging onto a rep who was doing nothing just so I could say I was repped.

Re: Reps that don't dig your work

I've been in your shoes. Years ago I wrote a script that my manager didn't believe in. He said he "wasn't feeling it." I fired him and found a new manager. The new manager took it out and it sold a...

Re: Do reps get a percentage of every episode of a TV show?

If your rep packages the show, once it goes to air the agency gets a packaging fee from the studio and they don't take a commission from you.

Re: Rewrites for a Manager

If your manager is also a producer, you pay him/her 10 percent of every dollar you receive until the movie gets made. If it does, he/she pays you back. If the movie never gets made, he/she doesn't....

Re: The offer

Was it a network or studio?

If it's a network, you'll get a script guarantee deal. Fees will be based on your quote. Most likely they'll put their own studio on the project down the road.

If it's...

Re: Tell me some Rejection Stories and Success after Rejection stories

When I was first starting out I wrote a spec that my manager "wasn't feeling," so I parted ways with him. I signed with a new manager immediately off the strength of that script and it sold a few...

Re: "Lengthy negotiations?"

Yes. Deals are announced prior to them being papered.

Re: "Lengthy negotiations?"

Usually the deal/negotiation of the broad strokes closes rather quickly - over the course of a day or two. I had one stretch out a month with counters. It's papering the deal that takes forever. That...

Re: Coffee shop meeting etiquette

No harm, no foul, but I would say this. It's customary for the person who requested the meeting to buy - regardless of the cost. I also don't see it as them making time for you, I see it as you...

Not sure why her question needed to be met with such disdain, big shot.

Re: Producer/Exec Notes

It's fine for execs and producers to pitch ideas and lines of dialogue, but it's not cool at all for them to open your Final Draft file and take a crack. In the future, only send PDFs. Also, if you...

Re: Notes for Dogs

I would be annoyed too if I saw the notes being tweeted. Anonymous or not.

Re: Manager relationship question

I hate when people give this "advice." See Ryan Condal's career as an example for why you don't listen to it.

Re: Regarding Pilots Being Picked Up

Wouldn't you agree this is a totally different scenario than the one the OP laid out and how most first timers sell a show?

Re: Regarding Pilots Being Picked Up

A first timer without a quote is going to have a very difficult time getting an EP credit the first time out and the salary that goes with it. Maybe in season two or if it is not a network show.

Re: Regarding Pilots Being Picked Up

Of the 5 or so people I know without any credits whatsoever who have sold shows, they have all ended up getting Co-executive producer. And that's exactly what I got when I sold a show to ABC as well....

Re: Regarding Pilots Being Picked Up

As a first time writer if you create the show, more than likely you will be a co-executive producer. When they buy your project, they will lay out what your credit is, how much you will get paid per...
