Re: 'Don't write dialogue we've all heard before' vs The November Man

Re: 'Don't write dialogue we've all heard before' vs The November Man

Re: 'Don't write dialogue we've all heard before' vs The November Man

Let's just be honest here... this movie doesn't have a single original quality about it. Bourne, Taken, Three days to kill - you name it.

If it wasn't based on a bestselling book it would never...

Good boutique lit managers?

Anybody have some suggestions? And more importantly what is the experience with these firms compared to some of the bigger firms?

Cheers.

Re: Pacific Rim

NO.

We want this to tank, saying that it's an "Original script" when it's from an established director like GDT and an established writer who can pretty much pitch any number of things and get a...

Conundrum...

I have a problem that I was wondering if a pro or someone else with management might have some advice on. To wit:

I've written a script that has been read by several friends, many of whom are...

Re: When did you crack screenwriting?

Now I know you're kidding.

His book is so long-winded it's painful. Sure there's some good stuff in there but f*ck me man, take a page from Hemingway and shorten it up a bit.

Re: Managers and Development

No they've never asked me to change an idea based on bullshyt like "whats the quadrant" or "Contained thrillers are hot right now"

Mostly the reason they want treatments is because they want to...

Re: Managers and Development

I'm repped by ZG and I can tell you that my manager has personally worked his ass off for me. In the last 6 months alone he's optioned one of my scripts and gotten me a rewrite assignment on a film...

Re: Does the end of the first ten pages need a cliffhanger?

I'd staple a 100 dollar bill to everyone of the first 10 pages. I promise they'll turn to page 11. :bounce:

Re: Words to Eliminate...

Gotta say the passive v. active writing bit is definitely a good tip. The other stuff I don't really care much about but writing using active verbiage definitely gives your script pace as opposed to...

Re: How on earth do I get CAA to read my work?

Are you sure about that? That's assuming the idea started as a hot spec which most movies don't start out that way. They start out as an idea a development exec at a studio has that they then plug...

Re: Is there any chance 'John Carter' doesn't fail?

Re: Is there any chance 'John Carter' doesn't fail?

But in...

Film is a visual medium. Obviously, a good script is the cornerstone of any good film, but if the visuals suck so will your movie. If nobody cared about visuals we'd all just listen to "screenplays...

Re: Is there any chance 'John Carter' doesn't fail?

Isn't that the whole point of advertising? So you can decide if you want to go see it or not?
