Re: Normal or Not (Managers)

I'm not being snarky here, but what's the alternative if you're not repped and trying to break in?

Reese Witherspoon, Pacific Standard email?

Reese Witherspoon says projects with a female lead over 30 are rare as hen's teeth. I've got one I'd like to send to her or her people.

Anyone have the email address or formula for her prodco...

Re: Tracking Board LaunchPad vs. TrackingB Competition

Tracking Board's Launch Pad contest has published its 12 Honorable Mentions. My script is among them.

Will it help attract...

Re: Tracking Board LaunchPad vs. TrackingB Competition

I made Honorable Mention, one of the 15 additional scripts (beyond the 25 finalists) being sent to reps.

If the TB folks have any success promoting my work, which was certainly the goal when I...

Re: Final Draft - Big Break

Didn't get the email blast (again) but I've got a comedy that's still in the running. Good luck to all.

Re: Final Draft - Big Break

I'm on the list for a comedy, but never got the email blast they mention. Did anyone here receive it?

Re: Contest results (so far) enough to persuade a manager to read my script?

Well, I sent out a handful of queries Friday to managers and I'll continue sending them out tomorrow. The subject line of the Friday emails described the script as being a "PAGE semi-finalist and...

Re: Contest results (so far) enough to persuade a manager to read my script?

Hi JKB,

I think you're right, there is no magic bullet. You need talent, luck, and persistence -- not in that order, necessarily -- when playing this game.

So no more trying to thread the needle...

Re: Contest results (so far) enough to persuade a manager to read my script?

This is great information.

Would one mention the awards in the subject line, e.g., for Ducky's email, would the query be something like, "SCRIPT TITLE XXX, finalist at Austin, semis at Nicholl --...

Re: Contest results (so far) enough to persuade a manager to read my script?

Vey interesting, EJ. May I ask:

-- Did you send out a lot of queries or do a more targeted campaign to get that response?

-- I assume the Page contest qualifies as "noticeable"?

Based on your...

Re: Contest results (so far) enough to persuade a manager to read my script?

Thanks to all for your input! You've given me much to mull over.

I have decided not to mention the quote from Austin because, flattering as it is, it does highlight the fact that I didn't make it to...

Contest results (so far) enough to persuade a manager to read my script?

So I'm looking to get a manager… or at least get one to read my stuff. My latest script is a semi-finalist in the Page contest and is a Second Rounder in this year's Austin competition.

Question...

Re: Page International Screenwriting Awards 2014

Ha! Very clever Willoughby!

I'm still in with my comedy.

Am curious what people think -- Is it too early to include "Page semi-finalist" in subject line in queries to managers and agents? Or wait...

Hi Muckraker,

I think your take on this is a good one, but here's a twist on the OP's original question for you: What's your opinion about producing a short and then sending its link to...

Re: "Think Clint Eastwood." An OK way to intro characters this way?

THAT'S where I read it. Thanks, ClintW3!

It's interesting to read the variety of opinions here as to whether it's a worthy technique. I can see how it might annoy a reader, but I can also see how it...

Re: "Think Clint Eastwood." An OK way to intro characters this way?

Max,

Thanks for your response.

I may have been unclear as to the reason to use the "Think Clint Eastwood" description. It's not so much to save space, although it would do that. It's to help make...

"Think Clint Eastwood." An OK way to intro characters this way?

I read somewhere, and I just can't remember where, nor can I successfully search on it, that it was a great trick to introduce your characters by adding a parenthetical note, for example, "BULL...
