Re: Saving Cats?

Actually - long before any of that there was a "pet the dog scene" in fiction, as well as kicking the dog. Dogs get a lot of use in fiction techniques.

But there are a bunch of techniques to create...

Combining scenes

1) Don't cheat margins & spacing.

2) Look for ways to combine scenes - often you end up with three scenes which each only do one thing... when you could combine them into one scene that does 3...

Re: Using BOLD in spec scripts.

Type over. That's how we used to do it... and how they used to do it in the 30s and 40s and 50s.

Re: Do Action Scripts like Gravity Have to be 90-120 pages to be a Feature Script?

A screenplay is not just the dialogue - the actions are the other half.

If you are not directing (and finding the $ yourself) you need something in the 90-110 page range.

Re: Bad movie: what's wrong?

Boll showed some POS at Austin one year and explained how he gets big names in his films - he makes firm offers just before production so they don't have time to change their minds. He starts at the...

Re: Stephen King "On Writing" -- no plot

He's talking about novels rather than screenplays.

Re: Military base/training - cliched setting?

If we've seen the location before, it puts more pressure on the concept to be original. I have a Script Tip in rotation on how vampires are not high concept - we've seen them a million times before...

Re: Naming Lawyers

20 pages? Give them names!

My favorite law firm is Cage & Fish (cajun fish), and my favorite doctor is Lisa Catera (Lease a Caddilac Catera) - both from David E. Kelly.

Re: Writing for genre/B-movies - Techniques & Tips?

Re: The right way of setting up a writer-director partnership?

What FlyingC said...

I go to a bunch of film fests (usually jury duty) and have met a bunch of great directors who have all kinds of talent, but haven't been discovered. Ages ago at Raindance London...
