Re: Recommendations for witch stories

SEASON OF THE WITCH

Saw it in the theater. It was a fun time. Can't go wrong with Nick Cage and Ron Perlman in the same flick.

Re: Cop Supernatural Thrillers?

I'm pretty fond of SPLIT SECOND with Rutger Hauer. I've not read the script, though. The monster is interesting.

I COME IN PEACE (aka DARK ANGEL) is another one, the antagonist in this one is...

Re: Literary Greats With Whom you'd Want to Co-Write

Nope, I just think it'd be a fascinating conversation. Some of his fiction was pretty enjoyable, I thought... just not the fiction that cost $10k per session.

I read and enjoyed Battlefield Earth;...

Re: Literary Greats With Whom you'd Want to Co-Write

I'd love to have beers and just talk fiction and world creation with the following gents of days past:

H.P. Lovecraft
Robert E. Howard
Robert Bloch
Alfred Bester
Jules Verne
Edgar Allen Poe
L. Ron...

I'm right there with you, Crackdown. No kids, single, nothing to worry about but myself. And I just recently turned 30 ten years ago.

Re: Rubber! wtf!

Call me strange but when Magnet distributes a film, I know I'll be entertained by it.

I have to see this.

Love how the tire has to do a 180 degree turn on its vertical axis to roll the opposite...

Re: Script Exchange- mine received a "consider"

Hi guys,

The same day Jason posted his notice to find a co-writer, I contacted him and wound up in collaboration with him. It's been a fun time so far.

I want to vouch for Jason's sincerity and...

Re: I have an action script I'm writing

I'd go with SILENCED 9MM or whatever the gun is, then if the silencer is removed, call it 9MM thereafter.

There might be better ways but this one gets the point across.

Re: Talented Actors/Actresses you'd like to see make a COMEBACK

Peter Weller- Preferably in a Buckaroo Banzai sequel.
Mira Sorvino- I can't get enough of her.
Gilbert Gottfried- Hilarious. I could listen to him read the phone book.

Re: Feel *Bad* Movies of All Time

"Love Liza". I think that's the name. Phillip Seymour Hoffman huffing R/C aircraft fuel. It was like gum on my brain shoe.

Re: Favorite Films That Exemplify Manhood

BLACK SHEEP (Not the Chris Farley vehicle, but the New Zealand horror comedy)

Beneath all the mutant sheep and gore, there's a great tale of a guy overcoming his fears and becoming a man.

Re: Movies you're embarrassed to own

Boy... I have entirely too many of these, but I'll just note the standouts.

Embarrassed to own, but like:

HIDE AND CREEP
LEBEN TOD: NIGHT OF THE DEAD
BONE SICKNESS
TROLL 2
RETURNER
EVIL BONG

Re: What's the problem w adverbs?

9ball,

What makes your character jump? Is it the motion of the newspaper coming into view, or the sound of it hitting the bar?

By using the word "slams", I get the impression that it was the sound...

Re: Comedies That Made You Laugh From Beginning

Hot Fuzz
Shaun of the Dead
Dodgeball
The Blues Brothers

..and many of those previously mentioned.

Rat Race made me laugh up to the point of the dreadful ending.

Re: Favorite Tough Chick Moment In Film

Laurie Zimmer (Leigh) in ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 (1976).

Quiet, cool, stoic. She almost seems to be a mild state of shock throughout the siege, but never seems to falter when the pressure's on. Her...

The camera can't see credits so I don't mention them at all =P.

Re: Female Characters

I think a good example of a complex female character in a film is Fry from PITCH BLACK. Flawed, conflicted, but ultimately heroic. Most people think of PITCH BLACK as the first "Riddick movie", but...

Re: Avoiding “The Second Act Blues”.

I've been trying to apply Bill Martell's system for the 3 acts, 30 pages per act format. It seems to be a good fit for the type of scripts I write. Found a link to it on Bill Cunningham's pulp blog...

Re: I cheated last night.

Of my three completed scripts, the longest is 92 pages. I seem to under-write rather than over-write. But, my style is pretty spartan and I do write in the horror genre.

Doubt I could ever write a...
