Re: Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood

The first 20 minutes were just a creative delight, really innovative storytelling approaches (the on-set "interview" with DiCaprio and Pitt was fantastic).

Also the "aging actor on a downward...

Re: Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood

Just saw this tonight. Enjoyed watching Pitt quite a bit, DiCaprio was decent, Robbie good, terrific atmosphere and "feel."

I think this screenplay would have benefited from more revision before...

Re: Where do you like to write?

A little late to the party here, but finding this a fascinating thread. For me the space I'm in definitely matters.

I typically write Emily Dickinson-style: in the attic. It's a finished space...

Re: What do you make of this query response?

I try to be somewhat targeted, look people up on IMDB and Google, but sometimes it's just a matter of trying to pick the most likely fit at a given organization.

I've asked for advice on loglines...

What do you make of this query response?

A manager I queried today about a feature film screenplay responded with a polite offer to read my script for $295. My instinctive reaction is to just cross him off my list and move on.

Anybody...

El Camino - anyone else underwhelmed?

Just watched El Camino last night. Loved Breaking Bad, much respect for Vince Gilligan, and enjoy the Jesse Pinkman character a lot.

It was mildly entertaining but felt like it never really got...

Re: What do these query guidelines mean exactly?

Thanks for your advice.

I'll shoot something to them because I've got nothing to lose by doing so, but will temper my expectations.

Been contacting everyone the WGA signatory list and a few...

Re: What do these query guidelines mean exactly?

Thanks for you prompt reply.

Got it, thanks. In my case, nobody's yet read the script, much less done any coverage, so...I guess I just leave that one out. Seems like that's what they would be...

What do these query guidelines mean exactly?

One of the agencies on the WGA "approved" list has an explicit invitation to query (Wayne Agency). I could use a little help on some of these terms as I'm somewhat new to this game.

Please begin...

Release clause

Just curious--I was reading the standard "Release" form used by an agency like CAA, and there's a clause about essentially not suing them if a very similar script by someone else ends up getting a...

Re: Cold query emails--just the logline?

Thanks. I poked around a little and found some query letter links in the FAQ, but they were all broken (most were 10+ years old).

I'll look again.

And probably an even more important question: how...

Cold query emails--just the logline?

I have several completed screenplays and am ready to start sending out some queries.

My understanding is that a query should be very brief and contain a logline--wait until someone expresses...

Pearl Street Films

Would anyone be willing to share an email contact for Pearl Street Films please?

I realize they likely won't look at anything, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Thank you.

Re: $300 million deal with Netflix

Thanks for your candid advice. I went into this figuring that you've got to really, really want it and persevere no matter how many doors get slammed in your face.

That's interesting about the...

Just saw in the NYTimes that producer Ryan Murphy just signed a 5-year deal with Netflix for $300 million. I had no idea the streaming services were spending that kind of money. Kind of hard to wrap...
