Re: #OscarsSoWhite

The article states that the Academy is 94% white and 77% male. That explains a lot.

Re: #OscarsSoWhite

I thought about this some more, and I just want to address again how misleading this math is.

Re: #OscarsSoWhite

I was thinking of mentioning that as well, as this controversy isn't limited to the exclusion of black performers, and that other non-white races are similarly statistically underrepresented,...

Re: #OscarsSoWhite

Looking at 2010-2015 alone, the win percentage (barring a surprise write-in vote this year) shrinks to 8.3% and nominee percentage shrinks to 5.83%... and it's 0% and 0% when looking at 2014 and 2015...

Re: Thoughts on reading spec pilots

Thanks for the tip, Jeff. I was on the fence about an opening VO/flashback in my pilot, and out it goes.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens -contains spoilers

That was re-recorded dialogue from Return of the Jedi, so it wasn't likely to turn up in the actual film.

Re: Fantastic Four -- The End of Decency

Well, that's awfully whimsical. Sometimes writers have and can exercise those options without any particular blowback, and more power to them if that actually has some kind of positive outcome. ...

Re: Fantastic Four -- The End of Decency

If you know a little of the background of this movie, you know that what resulted was not the ideal version for anyone involved in the production. It was a rushed production, because they had to...

Re: Diablo Cody article

Diablo Cody has astutely pointed out that Channing Tatum has hardly received any backlash or stigma from the fact that he was a stripper before gaining celebrity in large part because of that...

Re: PG-13 rules on F-bomb

You can sometimes even have more than one F-word in a PG-13, although usually it cannot be used in a sexual context. Exceptions are made all the time though. I was just watching MY BEST FRIEND'S...

Re: Alternatives to Triggerstreet?

I used to frequent Triggerstreet, and I would say that with any peer review site, you have to put a lot into it to get something out of it. You're lucky to get an extensive, thoughtful review. ...

Re: So how does "The Prisoner" on blu ray end up costing $219?

As I recall from an article I read on Ain't It Cool News when the Prisoner was first coming out on DVD, there were some rights clearance issues that meant the set had to be pretty expensive to...

Re: starting a scene with a punchline/dialogue before any action

I suppose that's a similar effect to how, in film editing, dialogue often precedes the change of shot which, in that case, motivates the change of perspective. At worst, it's slightly disorienting...

Re: Unfilmables

I think of these more as "asides." A way of contextualizing action without having to be too on-the-nose, the same way a paranthetical can help get across the necessary motivation behind an otherwise...
