Re: When your agent doesn’t like your script…

Good for you, Writr, and best of luck.

This thread you started has been a delight to read. So few are.

Re: Can the pros recommend ANY writing books?

I don't believe the argument was that there are no rules, but that many of supposed "rules" promote blandness and interfere with the engaging telling of your story.

No one argued that structure has...

Re: final draft mobile for ipad

I googled this just now. I assume it will be some sort of FD Lite, but is there anywhere to look to find features they have settled on?

Re: Who Likes the Ladies???

And this has me thinking.... I sit here thinking about all the great movies, great successes with female leads, but I can't think of a single movie with a female lead that was an abysmal...

Re: Just Make It Clear

I am a nobody and this strikes me as sound advice.

With one exception: contests.

Contest readers can be painfully anal in their faithful adherence to "rules" when looking for reasons to exclude...

Re: Allen Loeb and Clever/Bad Screen writing...

I can only dream that someday even newbies will know my name and be able to post here that my success is completely undeserved.

Re: All the Acts

What Bill said.

Take it all in, use what you can use and throw the rest away. Everyone is different; what doesn't work for someone else, might be the miracle tool for you. And ignore anyone who...

Re: Advance Planning

There were a few things that bothered me; others have touched on them. But it's been a while since I have enjoyed a film as much or been so impressed by a script.

Re: merging two scenes

Of course I am not being a smartass :). While I would never freeze-frame a character or have a VO describe him, I do like to like scripts to reflect the movie that is playing in my mind. The reason...

Re: merging two scenes

Yes, Comicbent is closest to what I intended, and my apologies for not being clearer.

The action in scene one would be ending as it partially dissolves into scene two, then scene one becomes static...

Merging two scenes

I am in Seoul without my screenwriting books.

I have a scene that involves violence, ends with an image that is, I hope, provocative.

I want to then merge in another scene with talking heads, while...

Re: Yes!!!!

It's a beach but when I wrap a draft I am so immersed in what I will change in the next it just continues.

By final draft I have already outlined the next script and it will be so much more perfect...

Re: Anyone Use Small Netbooks to Write?

Two netbooks and one full size laptop, all Acers. We got the netbooks for battery life as well as size, xp and linux installed on both. Typing not much fun, but you do get used to them. Miss having a...

Re: What's so great about Shane Black?

And much of the time he is.

Re: If you think you’re da $hit, then your stuff is $hit.

I am fu*king great. I am.

Sometimes I'm deluded.

And the rarest thing is hard, honest notes; not sure I've ever received them, not from contemporaries wanting a return read or a script analyst...

Re: I'm going to depress everybody here...

Only a tiny fraction of those who visit here will sell a script. That is a given we all accept.

But aspiring to attain the virtually unattainable is never a waste. There is no truer expression of...

Re: Jerry Maguire -- and what has happened to Cruise?

Re: what kinds of movies do young women want to see?

I read the MPAA survey results at about the same time I realized I had to rewrite the logline for a current script in progress because a female character had become the focus. First time for...
