Re: Midpoint

When I think midpoint, the first midpoint that comes to mind is Tootsie. When he's on vacation with Julie -- riding horses, holding babies, hanging out with her. It's like a little montage in the...

Re: The Last 10 Days

I watched his Vines back when they were coming out. Only reason I had a Vine account. He's great. I listen to this podcast The Moment on the regular. This YouTube will be a good refresher -- in small...

Re: The Last 10 Days

Good stuff. Thank you for posting. I get it. The past couple of years I've been way too constipated when it comes to writing, trying to get the four things I'm working on 'perfect' but you know where...

Re: The Last 10 Days

I'm in between a 3rd/4th draft of a feature that I started writing in January. It's an anti-romantic comedy. It's where these two people make a go of it but they should definitely not be a couple,...

Re: Rom-coms per Scriptshadow

2nd one is my favorite also. I've seen it a couple times.

Re: Do I need a lawyer?

Usually a manager will refer you to a lawyer they use to review clients' deals, they don't want any gotchas in the contracts either. Has your manager brought this up at all?

Re: Three Act Structure (Part 2)

He is in the business of classes, so I think he recommends three classes. ;)

But of course -- one class is enough for someone who 'gets' the method.

Re: Three Act Structure (Part 2)

Or just feel something. Most aspiring screenwriters don't even hit that target.

Re: Three Act Structure (Part 2)

Right. That was one of the points of iterating around scenes and sequences instead of an entire feature. Too often people write 40 scenes of a bad idea, reinforcing the bad parts over and over again....

Re: What is the best place for a petty criminal with limited cash to run to?

I did a quick internet search. You'd be surprised--France. They're resistant to extraditing Americans. Here's a...

Re: IMDB vs. IMDBpro

IMDbPro for contact info has worked well for me. I haven't had bounces, and usually get a response. But I've probably only sent like 20 queries over the years.

Re: Effect of the Coronavirus

I watched A Face in the Crowd like five years ago. It was really good. I watched it for a reason, but I can't remember it now.

Thumbs up Re: Amount of characters for Sitcom - Minimum / Maximum?

You should probably listen to the professional. (I'm saying this to OP, not Jeff.)

Re: Amount of characters for Sitcom - Minimum / Maximum?

Oksar, you make a point I was going to try to make but didn't think I could do it here without confusing everything more. I've analyzed Modern Family (in the past) and I think you don't get confused...

Re: Films that handle theme well and those that do it poorly

I just watched THE FIRM again the other night, and it's an example of a film that hits the theme a little too hard. It's not subtle. How a client cannot betray his client. I had not seen the movie...

Re: Amount of characters for Sitcom - Minimum / Maximum?

Good one. The Office is another.

In general, you won't find many over six.

Re: Amount of characters for Sitcom - Minimum / Maximum?

More important is the max number of characters. It's 7. That's the amount of information the human brain can hold in easy memory. It's why phone numbers were limited to that seven digits back when we...

I'm putting that on my list to watch out for. That's one I would mix up, too.

Re: With reps home now isolating - is this a great time or bad time to query?

Agree. Goes back to the chestnut from Christopher Lockhart: "Calculate less."

EDIT: It's Brian Koppelman who said this. I was wrong. Correcting my post.

Re: Effect of the Coronavirus

Heh. I've seen it misspelled from others high up also. I once wrote a script about a wedding and spelled altar as 'alter' throughout... My reader was like, "You need to get the details right."

Re: Effect of the Coronavirus

My friends in San Francisco think this will turn into martial law soon. What's funny on Twitter is how many people call it "marshall" law.

Thank you for doing a pandemic rate, I may send something your way.

Also, do you evaluate novels?
