Re: My concept sold today

Really, this is the same as writing any script that doesn't sell. A year or some months down the drain. But, not really. The experience all adds up. In addition, your script could have not went...

Re: Requested Changes

The country is China.

I have a good relationship with the producer. I've made other changes, so I don't have a bug on changing a script.

Mainly, I am looking for .1. has anyone had success in...

Re: Requested Changes

He optioned, but the amount was small, so I retained the right to return the funds (before a second tier was paid) if substantial changes I don't agree with are requested.

We work well together,...

I should note, I am not generally against making changes to scripts or accommodating another opinion.

Requested Changes

I've had a producer request changes to a script of mine. I'd be interested in some feedback on how to handle.

the changes relate to the oversight a government has regarding scripts filming in its...

Re: Is there a better time than others to querie?

If it is like most businesses, I am sure important things still happen on weekends--queries not being one of those "things."

Re: A writer friend died; his co- their scripts as if HE wrote them

My two cents.

1. You need to include the co-writer's name on the script and queries as that is the truth of the situation.
2. If the script is very good, the producer will likely not be put off by...

Re: At some point you have to give up

Bairn, "broke without a job" sounds like a failure to me. But, that's a technical point.

JTW simply intended that the author took a very long time to get to a point of writing success and could...

Re: Why write a good movie when you can be successful writing a terrible one?

Yes, Craig, similar to record business--a few big hits pay for a lot of non-sellers. Those big hits and the follow on go pretty far while the non-sellers don't make another record.

Plus, a lot of...

Wow! That trailer is amazing. If that doesn't spike interest, I don't know what will.

It appears your time and effort were very well spent 60 words.

Re: Why "high concept" rarely translates into satisfying, enduring movies

I agree completely. I am also guessing that a number of those scripts you wrote during the period covered were assignments and not spec. Which would be a different animal.

It is hard to imagine...

Re: Why "high concept" rarely translates into satisfying, enduring movies

You'd need to study it to get the exact blame, or the order of blame.

My guess is, 90% of the time, the blame is a poorly made movie no matter the concept. As most here know, a movie involves a lot...

Re: Why "high concept" rarely translates into satisfying, enduring movies

The market is pretty big--tent poles, indie's, foreign, etc. If you have something really great, truly great, you can get it done one way of the other.

It is kind of like the high school viewpoint...

Re: Why "high concept" rarely translates into satisfying, enduring movies

This is an article written by someone who never had even a dime at risk in a movie.

When she, or a similar writer today, puts some money into a movie and still feels that movies that can't be...

Re: Major Prodco Exec requested script but need agent or manager

I think John August said it best in a podcast,

"Anything other than the actual word 'Yes,' is a pass."

Re: Why "high concept" rarely translates into satisfying, enduring movies

Maybe it is best to look at it from a producer's viewpoint, or better yet, the person at the studio who is responsible, signed off, for the film, if made.

What are you ideally looking for?

A...

Re: Why "high concept" rarely translates into satisfying, enduring movies

I think what these last few entries point out is that "high concept" is not well understood, even by people who believe they understand it.

I don't even know if there is a definitive authority on...

Re: Deciphering what an agent said

Joe, I agree with you. No one is going to reply, essentially, "Let us look over your letter and get back to you."

They've already seen the letter, that's why they are replying. No one is going...

Re: Why "high concept" rarely translates into satisfying, enduring movies

Seems to me, the film business is a pretty big business with many parts.

When you talk about high concept, I think you are speaking mainly about the mainstream part of the business. The part of the...

Re: Questions about Working as Agency/Studio/Production Company Intern/Assistant

His wife was also a grunt at CAA, how they met, ...

Re: Help! Newbie's Script Requested as Part of Slate?

Get a lawyer is good advice, but the language sounds like a talker, not a doer.

Even with good legal advice, you need to get some data together about this guy to be able to make some kind of...

Re: Here's why it's hard to sell an original screenplay

What may be the problem and disconnect between the sides here is that the people NYNEX interviewed may all have had the "given" of a very good, professional script. Meaning, to them, it was...
