Re: Here's a new one... -UNTILED RANT-

Gucci: stick with it. I've read pieces by bi-racial people pushing back against the criticism that a certain bi-racial woman candidate for president is not Black enough. And since the other side of...

Re: Here's a new one... -UNTILED RANT-

Lol. I made this decision a while ago. I'll never give up writing completely. I still earn a living as a freelancer, marketing/advertising. :)

Re: Doing well in too many contests is a red flag for reps?

I think, in general, in any industry that's highly competitive, the deciders look for reasons to rule out contenders. So for this guy too many contests is a way to rule people out, for others it's...

Re: Here's a new one... -UNTILED RANT-

Your situation sounds like it's not a coincidence at all. I agree with you. The discussion just reminded me of a recent conversation with bro ranting over it. Sorry if it sounded like I was...

Re: Here's a new one... -UNTILED RANT-

Ha! My brother is convinced a recent tv commercial showing a woman getting a tattoo by a robotic arm was swiped by someone who read the opening scene of a script I posted here many years ago. I'm not...

Re: Synopsis -- Producer to Financiers

Of course all of the following is my non pro take etc etc disclaimer.

Going from your original post, the producer is sending this synopsis to his financiers. If these people are the first set of...

Re: Synopsis -- Producer to Financiers

Congrats! You know I love your writing so I must say I'm thrilled this producer agrees.:)

As for the synopsis, try working a synopsis of each individual act to break it down into easier sections to...

Re: Loving your character too much

I can't recall the title of the novel but my annoyance with something the character did in the last 10 pages always stuck with me because it was an example of what a writing prof said was a no-no:...

Re: Need Some Advice...

I get it. That's a good question. I never got as far as you havw so I don't know. I wonder -- do all the managers solely take projects to the production side of their shingle ?

Re: Need Some Advice...

Fa4...
I'm not clear on what you mean by free rewrites as it relates to working with a manager.

In my limited experience, at that stage you're tweaking the script prior to the manager shopping the...

Re: Getting rid of commas in dialogue

Your progress report find reminds me of one of my own. My mom had a suitcase full of photos and papers she'd saved and I found a 5th grade report card with the teacher's comment: sc111 expresses her...

Glad you returned to your wriring. Also glad your story of encouraging another writer has a happier ending than mine.

I do my best to encourage other writers. As one guy I know characterized it:...

Re: Getting rid of commas in dialogue

I have a hunch yeoman-esque pubic school teachers have destroyed countless potentially-awesome fledgling writers.

In fact, in one case, it's more than a hunch. Years ago, as a favor to a friend in...

Re: Getting rid of commas in dialogue

I wouldn't worry about commas in dialogue. Write the line the way you want it to be delivered by the actor.

Yes sir.

Yes, sir.

Yes! Sir!

Yes ... sir.

Re: Done Deal Pro Site

I have my suspicions. Will the contest winner be allowed to know who will be reading "his" completed script? Or will you have some sort of MysteryReader thing going on?

Look -- if you can get one...

Re: Done Deal Pro Site

I think Will was amazingly tolerant of your "suggestions" for his website while setting strong boundaries.

As for your question: What's the worst that can happen?

Two words: Bad Feedback.

Bad...

Re: How Tone and Voice = Writer's Style (attitude and personality)

I agree. And I'll go further -- for an unknown, unsold writer it's even more important to make anyone in the industry reading your pages "feel" something. Feel a genuine emotion.

Many moons ago,...

Re: Scene with no dialogue

You can cut this back with a few edits. Starting each sentence with "She" and repeating "box" is redundant. You can enter the scene later by starting in the study with Ashlynn already in the process...

Re: Why Did They Pass on Your Screenplay...

As FA4 summarized, any one or more of items 1 thru 5 result in a pass.

I look at it this way -- the only item the writer has any control over is #1: the quality of writing. So I focus on this alone...

Re: Log The Line... LOGLINES

I agreed with your post about The Godfather. I had little to add. Maybe we need a "like" button.

The comment after that about a protag with super powers. Hmmm.

Can a log help a writer map out act...
