Re: The Irishman

Philly capo sounds like a type of coffee. And if not, it should be. :)

Re: 1917

This instantly became one of my favorite war movies. I thought it was brilliant.

In the context of a war, it was a very small story and probably representative of many similar incidents, but the...

Re: Little Women

This is actually my favourite version of the book, though it is some years since I saw the others. I thought it was beautifully filmed and acted and very moving, but for me it did drag a little at...

Re: After Life

One of last year's best shows, in my opinion. Can't wait for season 2.

Re: The Gentlemen

I'm not a fan of either of those two movies, though I haven't seen them since they came out, but The Gentlemen hit the spot for me.

I agree about Grant. He's getting better and better.

The Gentlemen

The bar has been set very high for 2020! Best and funniest gangster film I've seen in years.

It's like a Tarantino movie without the self-indulgence.

Taleflick

Edited for Mods: Not sure if this is the right place to post, so please move if I got it wrong.

Anyone familiar with Taleflick?

It's a service designed to link books/scripts with agents & producers...

Re: Knives Out

I liked it, though it could easily have been 30 minutes shorter. It had a kind of comfortable and familiar 1970s feel to it and the cast were clearly having a good time.

Craig was spot on with Kevin...

Re: The Crown

I'm warming to her after four episodes, but my wife still feels the same as you. It's a shame because the new actor playing Philip is so good in his part, I haven't noticed the transition.

It's...

Re: Benefits Of Getting An Entertainment Lawyer Before Agent or Manager

Around 10 years ago I couldn't get an agent or manager, but I did have an LA entertainment lawyer who would occasionally submit scripts for me when required for a small fee (around $30 a pop from...

Re: Should we all be writing books instead?

If only the difference between screenplays and novels was the number of words!

The lure of novel writing for me is that I can get into the characters' inner world and explore the stories in much...

Re: Should we all be writing books instead?

I wrote and tried to sell screenplays for the best part of ten years before I'd had enough. I've now had two books traditionally published in the last few years, both based on unsold screenplays,...

Re: David Hedison

I didn't hear about David Hedison's passing, so thanks for posting.

He was one of my favourite character actors back in the day and I loved Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. I also thought he was the...

Re: Bodyguard

Overall I found it well done and entertaining, but I felt let down by the far-fetched ending. I was willing to suspend my disbelief about all the plot holes until then.

Re: Is not living in LA or NY a dealbreaker for managers & agents?

I have never had a problem getting reads from agents and managers in LA (from Australia) and I know there are some successful international screenwriters who live and work from here. John Collee, for...

Re: Unsolicited queries to prodcos

A few years ago I sent an email query to a producer at Fox regarding my animation feature script. I was aware they didn't take unsolicited queries, but I was frustrated I couldn't get the script to...

Re: Bohemian Rhapsody

I loved it, too. Best music biopic I've seen in years.

I always found the real Freddie's teeth extremely distracting, so Rami's choppers only added to the authenticity.

Re: Westworld

I loved every minute of it. I can't claim I - like the writers, I suspect - fully understood what was going on, but it was every bit as good as season one, IMO.

Re: Howards End

Excellent movie. Not as dark and powerful as Remains of the Day, but beautifully made. The standout performance for me was Samuel West (a very underrated actor) as Leonard Bast.

A four part TV...

Re: Take on contacting Circle of Confusion et al

I got a meeting with David Alpert there some years ago and then developed a project with a junior manager, but nothing came of it in the end.

Great bunch of guys, very open to ideas and I enjoyed...

Re: Godless

It took my a while to get to this series, but I loved it. Beautifully paced, written and acted, my only complaint is that it was too short!

Re: Becoming Bond

It's a terrific film and I thought they got the tone just right. Certainly one of the better docudramas (or docucomedies) around!

Re: Blade Runner 2049

I liked it a lot. Nicely paced, intelligent and beautifully acted. And it gave a big middle finger to people with a short attention span, which I found refreshing and nostalgic.
