Re: Offers to option quandary

In the case of Frank Sinatra, I believe you would need to family's cooperation for music rights. (Or whoever holds those rights.) What's the point of making a movie about Frank if you can't use his...

Re: Imagine Impact X Netflix

Are you going to submit? I can't submit to this one because I don't have a script in that genre. But when they do comedy, I might do it.

Re: Never Surrender: A Galaxy Quest Documentary

I watched it tonight. It's really interesting, especially the conversations about how they managed to hit the right tone. Good stuff!

Re: Imagine Impact X Netflix

If they did the judging solely on merit, they would likely get a bunch of white males. Not because white males are better writers, there are just a lot more of them. I really do think they're using...

Re: Protags: Likable? Relatable? Empathetic? Or is intriguing enough?

Wow, it sounds right up my alley. I'm definitely doing this show next, after I finish up Run.

Re: Protags: Likable? Relatable? Empathetic? Or is intriguing enough?

My cousin who teaches high school and deals with kids on drugs hated Breaking Bad for the same reasons as the two here who didn't like it.

Not everyone is supposed to like everything. What's nice...

Re: Protags: Likable? Relatable? Empathetic? Or is intriguing enough?

LOL!

This is a fun thread to read, not having watched it unfold and not being involved. Like a Bravo show.

Re: Protags: Likable? Relatable? Empathetic? Or is intriguing enough?

I loved Breaking Bad and The Sopranos. I think the first season of The Sopranos is the best season of TV ever made, but I think Breaking Bad was stronger over the stretch of its seasons.

Internal Affairs w/ Richard Gere. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099850/

I heard a redo was in the works last year. I love corrupt cop movies. Who knows in the current environment if this will now be...

Re: Not responding back after reading script

The people who read scripts are famous for the silent "no."

When I first got them, I used to find reasons, like -- they think I'm delusional and don't want to say it to my face. Or, they're scared...

Re: Michael Arndt's video on endings

The Blu-ray version of Toy Story 3 has a disk full of special features, including Arndt's talk on beginnings and other behind the scenes bits, like two different audio commentaries as you watch the...

Re: Midpoint

I did some digging into Pulp Fiction today. It doesn't sound like the structure of Pulp Fiction was heavily reworked in editing. Sounds like he was working with a really good editor who -- edited....

Re: Midpoint

One of the best takes on "how was this movie made?" (I've seen) involves a really bad movie and a guy huffing nitrous.

Re: Midpoint

I don't think it was written in a linear manner. Seems it was written in a series of notebooks in a haphazard way, with a typist taking Tarantino's ramblings and cleaning it up in a document. This is...

Re: Opening Scenes

That YouTube channel Film Courage has asked a lot of different screenwriters the same question -- how long do you give a screenplay before you know it's not gonna work, get out of the car, etc. Most...

Re: What do you think about?

Right, what could go wrong? Your ex stays in your apartment for a week and that's going to work out well. (He stayed at my place while his ex was in his place.) I realized towards the end that 80% of...

Re: What do you think about?

My most successful stories have been written because I got obsessed by an idea. The motivation behind the obsessions vary.

A couple years ago I got out of a longterm relationship that ended badly...

Re: Midpoint

When I think midpoint, the first midpoint that comes to mind is Tootsie. When he's on vacation with Julie -- riding horses, holding babies, hanging out with her. It's like a little montage in the...
