Re: Echo Lake

Well, some good and some bad. I met with James Engle in February. He liked my work, wanted to give me notes on my script, and then present it to the rest of the staff to see if anyone wanted to join...

Re: Stranger Things

Loved it, best show I've seen in awhile. I for one love the references, and I think it just goes to show there are no original ideas, but you can combine them in new and interesting ways to tell a...

Including a primary/ glossary?

So I'm writing a semi pirate themed script with nautical terms, etc. Was wondering if it would be prudent to include a small intro page with basic ship terms like what bow and aft mean, etc. Not...

Re: Saving Cats?

In Kingsman, the protagonist steals a car, but crashes it to avoid hitting a possum. My eyes almost literally rolled out of my head.

Re: Amanda Script Gal still doing coverage?

I've used her twice as well, and had a great experience both times with very helpful notes.

Re: Shorts...Why? How?

I'm in LA. My hesitancy is that I do sci-fi stuff, if it were comedy or drama I could probably knock something out pretty easy. I just don't know how I'd get any type of FX stuff done.

Re: An Open Letter to Franklin About the Black List

I'd love to know how many times my logline has been seen. Sort of like impressions on twitter. I can see how many people actually saw my tweet. It would be nice if whenever my logline/ script...

Shorts...Why? How?

So aside from the normal screenwriting route, is it worth it/feasible to try and do a short? I've seen a few times where a film gets bought because of a short and gets turned into a feature. I guess...

Re: Bright

I don't think it's that simple. The last 2 Landis films flopped, and you got Ayer and Smith onboard at Netflix for the not paltry 3 million plus (not flat 3 mill you quoted). Yeah you could go with...

Midnight Special

Just saw it. It was tense and mysterious and overall enjoyable, but after seeing Cloverfield lane, it didn't hold up. I think the issue was that the characters knew alot more than we as the viewer...

Re: How to get specific agents contact details?

TBH I dont know, I dont ever call, but some people do. If you're good on the phone you can try, I feel most of the time you're going to get blown off with a No.

Re: How to get specific agents contact details?

Get a subscription to imdbpro.com(or a subscription to donedeal which is considerably cheaper) and then you can look at the list of agents who work at the agencies you're targeting. Then you have to...

Re: Does a tv spec of an existing show have to be up to date?

They do, but use it in the context of serialized shows, so I wasn't sure if I could use it for an episodic, but I did consider doing it anyway.

Re: Does a tv spec of an existing show have to be up to date?

True enough. Two of the main characters were in a relationship, but now they are not, my idea had them still in a relationship. It's not a big deal I can take that aspect out, but I was just curious.

Does a tv spec of an existing show have to be up to date?

I was thinking of submitting to WB Writer's Workshop. I had an idea for an episode of New Girl that I'd been bouncing around for awhile, but it takes place in an earlier season. Does a spec need to...

Re: Had my first meeting with a manager...

This Thursday it will be two weeks, not terribly long, but im wondering how long would be appropriate, and if it would be rude to reach out and see how it's coming?

Re: Looking for a literary agent for a non-fiction manuscript

After having read this thread, I don't think you have a chance in hell of getting any sort of deal. First your premise sounds wonky and pseudosciency, but the biggest red flag here is that numerous...

Re: Querying optioned script?

Do you have anything else ready to show? I don't think a manager would be interested if your only work was already optioned, but since you have some success and s relationship with a prodco he or she...

Re: Had my first meeting with a manager...

Small update: I sent him the new draft and he responded within the hour that he was "looking forward to reading it and would have notes asap" so that's a good sign.

Re: Had my first meeting with a manager...

His note was insightful and critical to the story so I think it needs to be addressed. I'm going to send him the updated draft, and see if he responds. If not, c'est la vie.

Re: Had my first meeting with a manager...

He's not wanting to develop it to produce, he's developing it to show to his team of managers. His main comment was that since this is my first script being sent out it's important that we get it...

Re: Had my first meeting with a manager...

It's a reputable but small boutique firm. The manager has about 8 years in the business and has worked at a top tier management firm in the past.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see since this...
