Re: Midpoint

Found this from some blog talking about Syd Field's breakdown of a New Hope. I think we are all saying the same midpoint. Sometimes it's not just 1 scene. And honestly I recall SPACEBALLS a lot more...

Re: Midpoint

I just posted my post after typing it for 25 minutes and see you beat me too it. But technically i beat you as I was typing first! Seriously -- agreed.

Re: Midpoint

Been long time since I saw Star Wars first one with my screenwriter hat on -- maybe never as I just become a child again watching movies I loved as kid.

But isn't the MP more simple -- our heroes...

Re: The Last 10 Days

I was surprised no response from anyone in that orange log thread. I welcome it. It’s all good you’re all my buddies. We may fight but it’s not real. At least not to me.

Today I...

Re: The Last 10 Days

Please let's keep this about writing and not real life. I'm trying to escape from the horrors on here.

Re: The Last 10 Days

I give up Crayon. I don't know what your point is in all this other than to give me a headache and avoid posting actual work YOU ARE DOING in the 'What are you doing?" thread. Do you have a point? It...

Re: The Last 10 Days

Good sharing, Final Act! Inspires others to do the work.

And yes, please -- just put on music and shut off TV. Or at least put on movies or TV shows that are comfort food and you don't have to pay...

Re: Midpoint

JAWS and PREDATOR are my 2 favorite examples of movies that go nicely together but part 1 and part 2 are so distinct. Almost their own movies in the same world. Like a sequel happens during the first...

Midpoint

Do you guys use the Midpoint as guide when you plan out your next movie ideas? I'd quickly says MP is the dividing line between two halves of a movie. One you can clearly see by story beats.

I heard...

Re: The Last 10 Days

Art & fear is great. But yes, you learn by doing. You always hear how doctors go to school for 8 years and on their first day of work they finally start to learn how to be a doctor. Like almost...

Re: Lit Agent for Dope-Ass Teen Sci-Fi Novel?

So finding a talented writer via query makes them not want to look at queries? Writers sometimes get many offers and don't pick a manager who liked their material. They don't like queries because...

Re: The Last 10 Days

No he wasn't saying that. He was trying to give me advice to write more scripts, calculate less and get stuff done.

You have to keep writing screenplays to get to a level where you can write...

Re: Trim Down That Spec

I haven't seen show yet -- but yes that's what I mean.

It's real life and they still change real life stories into movie stories that fit the parameters set up for conflict, drama, and of course...

Re: Trim Down That Spec

Good point overall -- but I'd say no, at least this stage, we have to keep it at most 110 pages for best chances. So you may have to take a character you love and shoot him like Old Yeller to save...

Click on the article -- i was just cut and pasted what seemed like "main takeaway" of article as I knew no one would actually click on any of the links.

But that 65 page 12,000 word spec coverage...

Re: The Last 10 Days

Come on Crayon -- go full Good Will Hunting -- stop hiding your true self from the world. Tell us all about that erotic fiction you're working on. And that kid's book.

I answered it yesterday --...

Exactly. Just think how many short videos we click on and can't even finish. I used to listen to albums of musicians I loved, now I listen to 1 song.

Of course if I love something, I'll put in the...

Re: Trim Down That Spec

To answer last question -- no I'd advise them to get that sucker down to 110 pages. 120 is also too long. 138 is death for your chances even if it's great and everyone you know agrees. Even the rep...

Some good stuff here -- thanks Joe, Tiger, SC TRIPLE ONE and ComicBent.

Again, I personal love to cut down stuff. It does suck though every time when you know you're losing a good movie beat -- but...

Re: The Last 10 Days

Yes I’m a terrible writer. Happy. Again that was not his point. I’d restate if I believed that is what you want but I think you are just playing.
